28 May 2013 at 8:56 pm #114763Anyone seriously considering Graeme Jones needs their head looked at, including Whelan.
Mick Mcarthy might get us up, but we’d then have to sack him and find someone else to keep us up. Same goes for Warnock.
Possibly Coppell or even Coleman, but ideally Di Matteo or Poyet.
Or how about Rafa? ;)
Why?
He has more experience than some of the names being banded about on here.
28 May 2013 at 8:57 pm #114764Well he’s coached Utd to win quite a bit!!On 18 January 2007, Meulensteen rejoined Manchester United as technical skills development coach mainly to work with the first team. After the departure in July 2008 of their assistant manager, Carlos Queiroz to Portugal as their national team manager, Meulensteen took over as first team coach, with Mike Phelan being promoted to assistant manager. Both assumed their new roles on 13 August 2008.[3]
Since his appointment as first team coach, Rene has helped Sir Alex Ferguson secure the Premier League title in 2007–08, 2008–09, 2010–11 and 2012–13; the Community Shield in 2008, 2010, 2011, the League Cup in 2008–09 and 2009–10; the UEFA Champions League in 2007–08 and FIFA Club World Cup in 2008.
Impressive eh?
Lets hope he can coach defenders :cheer:
He’s obviously a decent coach – although that doesn’t mean he’ll automatically be a decent manager.
28 May 2013 at 9:04 pm #114768Dare i suggest Tony Pulis.
28 May 2013 at 9:05 pm #114769Anyone who Whelan thinks is Cheap enough will be good enough…Graham Barrow anyone?
28 May 2013 at 9:07 pm #114770Think the job is Graeme jones if he wants it, though he may not want to to step in the limelight, some are just happy to remain a number 2.
Failing that Gary Neville. I reckon he’d take it too if he seriously wants to move into management, close to home, decent squad with a good chance of promotion which requires improvement in defence which is his area of speciality.

Really? How much of an influence hs he really been and what experience does he have to manage? It’d be Chris Hutchings all over again.
Remember the first couple of seasons when nobody could fathom why Bob had him as an assistant as he had no experience and when it looked as if they didn’t even communicate. That said I also wouldn’t touch Carra or anyone else with no managerial experience with a bargepole
28 May 2013 at 9:10 pm #114773Tony pullis and Gary megson. Two names to bring one out in a cold sweat.
28 May 2013 at 9:15 pm #114774British manager that isnt Jones.
Just a hunch
28 May 2013 at 9:16 pm #114775Steve Kean
I’d rather Whelan did the job himself :woohoo:
28 May 2013 at 9:20 pm #114777Gary Neville? Why would he leave the best and easiest job in the Country to take a pay cut and manage us?
Phil Neville maybe.28 May 2013 at 9:21 pm #114778Anyone seriously considering Graeme Jones needs their head looked at, including Whelan.

Yes, really. (Jamie Carragher – as you’ve mentioned, Phil Neville, and Gary Neville to name three)Of course he and Roberto communicated, and Jones took the training sessions either with Martinez, or without him when other responsibilities took him away. He was heavily involved in every aspect of the team. They’re even mates away from the club so I’m sure football might have come up in conversation from time to time.
He may turn out to be another Hurchings, or he may turn out to be a revelation; we’ll never know until he is given a chance. He’s been approached for a couple of managerial jobs in the past so obviously someone has seen something in him.
29 May 2013 at 12:23 am #114841Been saying Gary Neville for a while but he isn’t even in the betting.
Failing that I would seriously take anyone of the Man Utd coaches or ex players, Rene, Phelan, Neville (G or P), Scholes, Beckham (the brand)
If we could get this Rene Muss……elbrough (will take me a while to get his name) You can pretty much guarantee that the staff Moyes get’s rid of will be coming here. I think this move could be very, very, very shrewd.
Pull this one out Dave. Please no Owen Coyle or Phil Brown type appointment.
29 May 2013 at 12:30 am #114842A few quid on Kenny Jacket. A manager who’s worked at this level and won’t cost nothing. Works on a tight budget. About right for us then
29 May 2013 at 12:33 am #114843Really? How much of an influence hs he really beenWhile I can only speculate it seems a bit of a coincidence Jones finished his career at Hamilton Academical around the time McCarthy and McCarthur would have been coming into the first team fold..
He quite possibly and probably is the reason we signed them both…

I wouldn’t mind Davie Weir on the coaching staff. Was a great player centre half and an intelligent lad to boot.
