There is only one i remember in my fog of a memory of the time i having been following the Tics. Bournemouth at home in was it 1988?.have there been other home games Abandoned ? what were they since 1932 or perhaps the Bournemouth game was the only one :?:
16 February 2011 at 3:29 am #59637I don’t have the stats on abandoned games, but I can remember Watford a couple of years back.
Paul Jewell ran over to us in the away end and asked if it should carry on…… and it didn’t. we were drawing I think and we drew the rematch.
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

Thanks for that. i don’t remember it, but my memory is like swiss cheese apart from set memories  . so that is 2 since 1932. unless there was one in 1939 because the Ref lost is false teeth or something :D

Bournemouth at home in was it 1988?.have there been other home games Abandoned ? what were they since 1932 or perhaps the Bournemouth game was the only one :?:Bournemouth was in 1987. I remember it quite well. We were a goal up through Paul Jewell, and the referee was George Courtney, a top ref at the time. The snow was coming down really bad, and I think there was a fair covering of the pitch as well. Orange ball, if I recall. The replayed game finished 1-1, I think.
Also recall a game at Burnden Park in about 1989, when it was torrential rain and the pitch got more and more waterlogged. I think it got to half time, or maybe early in the second half, but there was surface water all over the pitch, and it was abandoned. It was 0-0, I think. They then kept us locked in, before turning all the lights out on us. And they wouldn’t give any refunds.

FOG!16 February 2011 at 10:43 am #59647Anonymous
Vaguely remember watching a cup game at Northwich Vics back in early 80’s that was abandoned through fog – we couldn’t see the other end of the pitch – think it was called off at halftime, but somebody may have to clarify as I was only a nipper at the time…
16 February 2011 at 11:10 am #59650You are right Wigan had a 3 goal lead I think and the fog came down in the far corner of thye ground from the local River that ran at the side of the ground, the funny thing was the Wigan keeper wasn’t sure the teams had gone off and kept edging towrads the centre circle until he was certain. Wigan won the replay
16 February 2011 at 11:12 am #59651Gateshead at home in the mid 70s was abandoned around 70 minutes due to a blizzard.

100% definite it was snow and Courtney was the ref.
Here’s programme from the game. Mines in a bag in my dads garage, I think!
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1987-WIGAN-v-BOUR … 0718444001Checked out the replayed game, played the following month, and we actually lost 2-0.
