26 May 2011 at 12:09 am #66620AnonymousGood article Griff. Was a bit dubiuos of these fans meetings at first, in terms of it being an easy way of feeding the fans what they want us to hear, rather than the real story.
Seems that contact with the club is better than none at all and shows a willingness to at least listen to fans views, questions and opinions.
26 May 2011 at 2:41 am #66646Good write up Griff.

Thanks.
Honestly, there really is no side to this, you can ask anything and they will answer honestly, within reason. These guys (Roberto, Jonathon and ED) are real fans of the club, not just employees, and they are genuinely trying to do what they can to improve things by holding these sessions.
If anything (from what I saw, and bear in mind I have only attended one) they probably get an easy-ish ride because the people asking the questions are generally supportive of what they are trying to do. Tuesday’s session was largely a love-in with Roberto admittedly, but I am aware that earlier sessions have been concerned more with how the club can improve things from a fan’s persepctive and initiatives raised in thoses sessions are being acted upon and continually reviewed.
There really is no need to knock the efforts the club are making here, and I realise you weren’t. Not may other PL clubs would engage effectively with the fan base as much as WAFC is trying to do.

26 May 2011 at 2:01 pm #66685A very good read Griff. As an ex-journalist I suggest you do a bit more writing in your spare time as you write very well.
I work in PR now and I must say that it is excellent PR from the club that they put on these sessions and keep in touch with the fans this way. I’m sure most of the critics who were chastising Roberto earlier this season will have a wee bit of a warm glow after reading such positivity after a tremendous end to the season.
The problem now is, we have to wait two and a half months for the new season to start again!
