    Released from Man Utd

We are all well aware of how desperate Dave Whelan has been in trying to sign him for about 8 years. He is in the twilight of his career and is the only thing we slightly lack for me. A six yard box striker, A poacher. A two year deal and relegation escape clause is very realistic now in my view. Especially as he more or less needs to stay local for his stables. Bolton and Blackburn going have paved the way for us to make a firm first move. Can’t see Whelan and Martinez idling on this one if they think something can be done. He would suit our style perfectly providing he can keep fit.

I thought we’d moved on from signing journeymen.

        yosser,
did you desert the ‘never going again (until Whelan has spent some of his millions on players)’ brigade when things started to look up towards the back end of the season?

        A crock.

Can’t see it happening. Not sure it should.

I would have no doubt that if Owen was supplied with the amount of chances we were creating at the back end of last season he would put a decent amount in the back of the net.

But having just released one expensive crock I dont think we can afford to take on another one.

Is he even fit at the moment?

No big mouth, i still haven’t been. And he still needs to spend. If anything to let Martinez carry on what looks like he has maybe started. Sorry but no matter how good we have been for 2 or 3 months, nobody could envisage how 3 years of crap turned Barca style at the end. Not even the hardened fans. Yeah it looks good but it did at the end of last season too. Needs to be built on and money still needs to be spent. You can only do so much with the standard of (i’d say half) of the team.

You expect Whelan to pour in millions when you cant even be arsed turning up

I’m not going to say that the “Barca” style football could of been predicted but I think the more level headed posters on here could see things slowly but surely improving.

And you cant really compare the back end of the 10/11 season to the 11/12 as 10/11 was in large parts due to Charles indivdual performances… I think its fair to say the whole team stepped up to a new level at the back end of this season.

I THINK OWEN WOULD BE GREAT HE IS A POACHER AND BETTER THAN OUR CURRENT STRIKERS HE WOULD ALSO PUT 2,000 ON THE ATTENDANCE EVERY HOME GAME.

I doubt he’d end up playing every home game. He’d certainly be the talk up at Wigan Golf Club.

Anyway, I thought we had a ‘fox in the box’ poacher in Boselli, but our style of play didn’t suit his.

Salford, Many factors involved and not what the post is about. Work commitments stopped me going most of the time, But recently that has been a non-entity meaning i can’t afford to go anyway. But no, Whelan even stated last week he was preparing to cull the squad in January ready for the summer rather than spend and help to save premiership status. That sounds like even he was defeated at that point until Martinez saved it all. Doesn’t fill you with confidence. Everyone could see what Martinez was trying to do but i don’t believe for one second anyone believed any progress had been made. It just clicked like someone had flicked a switch. But i would rather be wrong than right in this instance. I don’t care how much aggro i was giving at the time, I have always stated things as they were and it was crap. I wasn’t on the board when it all changed around, I didn’t post for 3 months prior to it and the only reason i am doing so now is to reply to you. But i will leave this post alone now, I was just pointing out that Owen was available and since Boselli won’t be coming back i think it is time to get a fee for him and use it on Owen’s wages on a pay as you play OR a substantially lower weekly wage. He aint going to et a full contract anywhere im sure.

Well, there’s your answer. Persuade Boselli to come back on a quarter of Owen’s salary.

Why sign Owen then for a fortune? Hopefully we’ll have our new striker in a rejuvenated Boselli.

I agree, fitness is a massive issue with him, only if he came on a pay as you play deal would he be worth a punt.
