… is the only thing we slightly lack for me. A six yard box striker, A poacher.
A crock.
Can’t see it happening. Not sure it should.
I agree, fitness is a massive issue with him, only if he came on a pay as you play deal would he be worth a punt.
….and I too agree with that sentiment Nuneaton. No purchase payment, which could offset players wage, however, it’s what he could possibly bring to the training ground and dressing room with his past ‘international’ experiences – after all he is a ‘nice guy’ as well.
Super-sub……ManU did it with Solskjaer and more recently Blackpool with Phillips.
and hey…..who’s to say that Estudiantes wont put in a cheeky little bid to keep him there and we cut our losses (Bosselli has scored a dozen in about 29 games for them)….just a thought like.
17 May 2012 at 9:49 pm #87447Dont want him, he had his chance and ditched us for the toon, another money man thats always on the physio table
17 May 2012 at 9:57 pm #87448Can’t believe we are having this debate, the guy is never fit and would not warrant the very large signing on fee and or wages he would demand.
17 May 2012 at 10:59 pm #87455I have mixed views on this. No matter what you say about Owen he is still a world class finisher.
When coming on as sub for united over the past few years he bagged quite a few. He has more than enough business commitments to keep his bank balance ticking over, so might take a huge pay cut to finish out his playing career in the top league.
If you look at what Kevin Phillips has done at both Birmingham and Blackpool he just loves getting 30 mins to do his stuff and I think we could do the same thing with Owen.
Just ask yourself, we are drawing 0-0 with say Villa going into the last 20 mins and despite most of the play have missed numerous chances.
You look over to the bench and see Connor Sammon and Michael Owen sat there, who do you tell to warm up? B) :woohoo:From Matlock to ManU

Seeing that you my friend was one of the posters who ranted for most of the season that bobby wasn’t good enough, I will take your latest post with a pinch of salt. :P

The stats firmly back my doubts and you will find that there are plenty of football pundits and Liverpool fans stating that he hasn’t really proved anything concrete yet as regards to being the real deal just yet !! I hope that if he does stay he continues to move us in the right direction but one swallow does not make a Summer and he has plenty to prove !

Are you being deliberately thick, Phil? Clearly JRs inference is that Sammon is nowhere near the player that Owen is, and you agree with him, so it’s a fantastic comparison.

I was trying to say that 99.9% of Prem strikers are better than Sammon and so any other striker would get the nod over him. Jason Scotland would even get the nod over Sammon !! Owen is NOT the answer and so no need to compare him to a player who is clearly out of his depth as a selling point so to speak ! Kapish ? ;)

But he can only compare him to someone sat on our bench. 99.9% of Prem strikers are not sat on our bench.
And yes, I do “kapish”. Well, actually I capisce, but c’est la vie

There is no comparison and you know what I am saying so stop it !! And as for Kapish, there are several ways of spelling it according my Italian mate ! Neither of us are wrong !! ;)

I’m never wrong.
Of course there’s a comparison. There can always be a comparison.
I was once compared to Glenn Hoddle. Someone once said that, compared to Glenn Hoddle, I was absolutely shit.

My thoughts exactly but I couldnt be arsed getting into that one.
I can be arsed getting into this one though.. Jason Scotland over Sammon …. All that pinapple express is going to your head Filly and you’re losing your memory…
Sammon can at least push on against tiring defenders in the latter minutes of the game and looks like if he can sort his elephant first touch out he may score a few goals.. Scotland offered nothing in his time here whatsoever.

If you are insinuating I am a pot head you got the wrong Brother pal ! If you think Sammon is a decent bench player for a Prem team then fair enough but you are in a minority there pal because he is Championship class at best and that view is held by many many fans ! I like him for his effort but he comes up well short and has been found wanting at this class ! As for this comparison business I will say that Varney who has just been signed to Leicester from Fleetwood could quite easily replace Owen in Fatfan’s scenario !!
