Tired team today, 9 points clear of 7th, large competent squad to pick from.
Would you pick Saturday’s team vs Arsenal, rest almost all and put a “second string” out vs lowly Millwall midweek?
Or give Millwall respect, attempt to solidify our playoff berth and rely on the Wembley occasion to push aside any tiredness for those that also play midweek?6 April 2014 at 4:01 am #129452Despite his usual rotation, Rosler made only two changes today.
I’d pick the team for Saturday first, and then the team for Tuesday, resting the players most important for Saturday if possible. But it’s difficult to rest both Boyce and Perch on Tuesday.
Tuesday v Millwall
Al Habsi
Ramis Barnett Kiernan
Perch McEachran Collison Waghorn Crainey
Maynard McCleanSaturday v Arsenal

Boyce Ramis Barnett
Perch McArthur Gomez Powell Beausejour

The teams around us are dropping points, and if Burnley do capitulate we need to make sure we capitalise. It will be tough against Arsenal and a game we just might lose regardless of who we put out?
6 April 2014 at 9:52 pm #129483Waghorn has already played for Leicester in the FA Cup. As he is cup-tied, I’ve included him in my team to play Millwall.
Jimmyc, what do you think our strongest teams would be?
Arsenal are going through a bad patch just now;
Everton 3-0 Arsenal
Arsenal 1-1 Man City
Arsenal 2-2 Swansea
Chelsea 6-0 Arsenal
Tottenham 0-1 Arsenal
Bayern Munich 1-1 Arsenal Champions League
Arsenal 4-1 Everton FA Cup
Stoke 1-0 ArsenalAfter today’s performance at Everton, they are clearly beatable. They are short of confidence and short of players too.
But we will need to field a strong, fresh team that plays well to beat them. Wigan play on Tuesday night, and there could be extra time on Saturday.
7 April 2014 at 2:26 am #129513Arsenal have a game against West Ham on the Tuesday after the semi. They are now in danger of missing out on champions league qualification.
Which is most important to them FA Cup or Champions league..this may affect their team selection7 April 2014 at 3:42 am #129515Arsenal are desperate for a trophy. Winning two games against modest opponents will give them the FA Cup. I think that Wenger will put his strongest team out on Saturday.
However, as Arsenal have so few players available at the moment, he has very few options open to him for either game. His team on Saturday is likely to be little changed from today. I’m sure Rosler will have studied how Everton tore them apart. Wigan have a great chance of reaching the Cup Final once again!

I’m sure Rosler will have studied how Everton tore them apart. Wigan have already beaten three Premier League teams – Crystal Palace, Cardiff and Manchester City. Wigan have a great chance of reaching the Cup Final once again!

Arsenal were awful this afternoon.
If they play that badly against us, and I hope they do, then we have a really good chance of getting to the Final.
I’m sure Uwe will have a plan, I hope we can be skillful and clever enough to implement it.
However their season is resting on this and the media will be expecting them to beat us but we’ve been in this position several times now so fingers crossed we can do it again.
A good result on Tuesday night will put us in the right frame of mind I’m sure.
He should play his strongest team in both – however I’m not sure what the best team actually is to be honest !!!
7 April 2014 at 4:07 am #129522Not sure if herr rosler knows his best 11 yet , but in uwe we trust onwards to wembley we go !
7 April 2014 at 4:08 am #129523There could be extra time on Saturday. You can’t expect players to be at their best after playing a game on Tuesday too.
We’ve got a big squad, let’s use it. Most of the Saturday team should have a rest on Tuesday.
7 April 2014 at 5:08 pm #129545I agree Barnsley – Arsenal are looking ripe for the taking, so I think we can afford to take a gamble on the team to play Millwall.
7 April 2014 at 5:43 pm #129554Arsenal are clearly vulnerable at the moment. Even so, it will take a good performance by Wigan to overcome them.
Arsenal were outplayed at the weekend, but it was an exceptional performance by Everton. Ramsey and Oxlade-Chamberlain came on as substitutes for Arsenal and brought more energy and enterprise.
And Martinez had a plan! He played his powerful forwards (Lukaku and Mirallas) down the wings against the full backs, and his small, nippy forward (Naismith) in the centre against the centre backs. Out of possession, they all dropped back to frustrate Arsenal in midfield.
I don’t think Wigan could imitate that, but Wigan could match Arsenal in midfield, and McManaman, Powell and perhaps Fortune could pose some problems for their defence. McManaman should be able to take on Monreal and beat him; I’m sure that Wenger will be desperately trying to get Gibbs fit to play.
Tomorrow’s team against Millwall should give us an idea of Saturday’s team too.
8 April 2014 at 1:36 am #129585Un-decided as to how much he would rotate his squad during the increasingly heavy fixture period, Rosler added:
“We weren’t at our freshest in the second half against Leeds and it showed because we didn’t have enough options for the player in possession. We’ve also seen evidence of that in the stats we receive and the physical stats are not at the level they usually are.
“Rotation may or not be the case for tomorrow, it just depends how ready certain players are. No matter who is included in my team tomorrow, I don’t think anybody can be considered to be a surprise because we have a very strong squad as a lot of people have highlighted.
“We are facing a Millwall team who also have a very strong squad in terms of numbers, in fact they have more numbers than we have. Millwall make a lot of changes so that is something we need to be aware of, they have put themselves in a good position to survive in this division, but we need to make sure we keep our run going.”

Waghorn, Tunnicliffe and Kiernan are cup-tied, so are likely to be in the squad tomorrow. Collison, however, is eligible for the semi-final.
8 April 2014 at 4:29 pm #129609Hopefully the time will be right for Maloney to get a run out tonight. He HAS to be on the bench on Saturday for me. Will add that spark in extra time if needed and is also a confident penalty taker.

Waghorn McEachran Collison McClean (bring Maloney on at HT)
