You’re a better man than I am Egg because while I like to think of myself as a Wiganer through and through, having lived through the Lyndsay era I cannot find it within me to forgive them for what they tried to do then. The best I can manage is a complete indifference to our lodgers most of whom still won’t accept everything that Dave Whelan has done for them and would like nothing more than to see our great little club go under.
Mind you I suppose the same could be said for Latics fans also.

We hate them because they tried to kill us.

They hate us because we exist.

Although in fairness these days I’m just not arsed anymore.

At the end of the day it has to be the most ridiculous rivalry in sport in no other town would there be this much hatred of sporting success. The arrogance and disrespect of the thugby lot towards the Latics in the early days of league football was unbelievable. It is no wonder that Latics fans now hold the klumps in utter contempt. Fair play to the likes of egg and others on here who follow both but for me as a fan of almost 50 years having to put up with all the vitriol that that lot have aimed at my club for donkeys has left me filled with the same pointless hatred towards them. Petty it maybe but there is only so much you can take before you bite back.

You keep it up egg lad as someone has already said your a better Mon than me.

D.J. Petty it isn’t. The worst thing was Dave dragging the pathetic pricks to the then JJB to play home games and the arrogant idiots didn’t entertain the building of the stadium and didn’t welcome having to play their games there. Next thing the mis-informed ignorant pricks were calling the stadium their stadium.
Why doesn’t their football Mon Chairman just take them away and build them a ground of their own like St Helens, Widnes, Salford and Warrington did.

Go on wear one next season for your Checkatrade Trophy match against Newcastle Academy.

I am actually hoping for a glamour tie at the DW against the Latics Academy.

Essentially the rugby club was bankrupt and had to sell their ground without any firm plans on where to go.

I’ve posted an article on here a number of times that gives an insight into the events surrounding the selling of Central Park and Whelan’s involvement. Even though this article was initially posted on a rugby forum (I assume by a rugby person), many of the facts are ignored or dismissed (again I assume this to be correct since I haven’t seen or heard any contradictions) by those who cannot accept the fact that Whelan had to step in to ensure the club had a stadium to play in.

There is nobody more stubborn than those in denial. They cannot bring themselves to accept their club had lived well beyond it’s means and had to be saved by a man who already owned a football club and was building a brand-new stadium for them with a plan to reach the uppermost echelons of the football ladder.

Had this not been the case Whelan would now be revered by the rugby fraternity and Wigan Athletic could have remained that “smashing little club” to be patronised and allowed to go out of existence without any remorse, which at the time was a distinct possibility.
