Well after the forest game I hoped it would be the same again but the tinkerman couldn’t help himself. Another formation, different striker. However got to say a good point.
Praise for fortune and Barnett… Anyone certain they’ll start next week.
5 October 2014 at 3:09 am #133905I can confirm they wont
5 October 2014 at 3:29 am #133906Or even next game
5 October 2014 at 3:42 am #133907penny dropped
5 October 2014 at 4:09 am #133908Coyle out! Sorry Coyle had a better record than this Mon.
5 October 2014 at 11:44 am #133909No he didnt. Maybe if we forget how Uwe transformed the team he inherited from Coyle and an entire 6 months. On Tuesday against Forest as hard as we battled we hardly had a shot on target. Delort was pathetic and Barnett more commanding when he came on. No point Rosler having a squad if he cant look for fresh impetus in a team that is struggling.
5 October 2014 at 12:49 pm #133910He had no choice with boyce injured delort terrible at the mo and macca needs a minute
5 October 2014 at 1:43 pm #133911Agreed the changes were necessary but why the formation change, just go like for like. Cowie on the right?
According to the tinkerman fortune had a good game at Bournemouth and great today so why play delort against forest.
Stability brings understanding but I guess I’m just old school and this is modern football…doesn’t mean it’s right though?5 October 2014 at 2:46 pm #133912Doesn’t make it wrong, either.
I presume Whelan gave Rosler the job because he knows a bit more about football than you. And me, to be fair.
Just saying.

Stability brings understanding but I guess I’m just old school and this is modern football…doesn’t mean it’s right though?Yes – but backintheday we used to play with full backs, half backs, wingers, inside forwards and centre forwards. Oh! and shirts were numbered 1 to 11.
You are right, it is the modern game; but we have to trust that the manager has done his homework and set out a team (and formation) to counter the opposition and if that means “tinkering” as some people call it (I prefer calling it tactics) then so be it.
It’s good to have this banter on the football boards and in the pub, however, if any of us were to be let loose with the team selection and formation on the day – then Heaven bloody help us.

Yeah Mick McCarthy couldn’t believe his luck when he saw the formation and tactics that were put into use against his side eh! ;) Faux pas springs to mind for that one !

I’m in danger of agreeing with you, here. We can’t be having that! ;)

Indeed Fil, however, I never said he gets it right all the time – but I venture he would get it right more times than any of us could.
In Uve’s defence, it didn’t matter how we set ourselves out that day as McCarthy set his side out with his usual remit to kick seven barrels of shit out of our main players. I’ve never rated him as a tactical ‘genius’ just a thick stuck-in-the-mud thug who’s managerial CV took him from his National Team to Ipswich (via Wolves) – hardly earth shattering. Further, I think he is arrogant enough to make that sort of comment after having beaten us that night (I’m not saying we set the world alight that game, but he could have said anything to look good in the Ipswich Press and belittle us).
I just seem to think that it is a little unfair that we could go 20 games unbeaten then have the ‘Ipswich Game’ and some people on here (and other forums to be fair) become world class managers and tacticians and slag him off and make childish playground names up.
Like I said earlier in another thread – I’ll save my critique until the 2nd May 2015 when I’ve had the whole season to look back on.
8 October 2014 at 10:54 am #133940Keep hearing this word ‘ tinkering’ however didn’t a certain Mr Jewell do plenty of that in the clubs last major transitional season of 2001-2002 ?
After the season of weeding out the deadwood and trying different things ( transitional periods follow the same pattern at any club) ,which is what our manager seems to be doing each week ,a gradual improvement was seen and we all know what happened in the seasons that followed.
The problem with this season so far is far too much pressure has been applied to get back to the Premier league rather than take each game as it comes and build towards the goal again in a more steady fashion and far too many players were purchased by his predecessor.
seasons like this one have happened before and I’m sure the similarities with PJs reign will mean that the club sticks with Uwe for this season at least until he has cleared out the deadwood in January- ageing players , players not featuring etc.
A management change could damage this club so badly now that I think the effects would be far reaching for years to come and a relegation battle would be a certainty rather than a slow but steady improvement which seems to be the happening at the moment. -
