Premier clubs have a decent back up goalie, most people would agree that Ali as not been quite up to the high standards he as set for himself, perhaps it could be down to him knowing his place is guaranteed, just wondered if a good number two would push him,and dont say mike pollit

Why not Pollit? He’s never let us down and doesn’t even get a game in cup these days. He’s a year younger than Brad Friedel who is on bench for Spurs. Am sure at end of season we will be looking to push Nichols through to replace him. Ali has been one of our most consistent performers and you couldn’t fault him for any of the goals yesterday. In the grand scheme of things goalkeeper would be the last position I would be worried about.

I’m not normally negative about players, especially Ali, but I personally think he is having a terrible time at the moment.

Fault him for yesterdays display? for the first and most important goal 100% yes! Why does he have to parry the ball forward when he could try to either keep a hold or parry it away from the oncoming strikers. He has done this on numerous occasions this season and it is proving costly.
The other thing he needs to practice is his distribution. If he can’t bowl it out or kick it short, he tonks it to the touchline and it either goes straight out for a throw or Boycie and Beu have to jump 3 metres in the air to head it.

His positional play at crosses is also a bit suspect. He needs to be more dominant around the 6 yard box and not stand and wait hoping he can pull a world class save off from a few yards.

Apart from that he’s doing sorta OK.

Most Premier League clubs charge twice what we do for a season ticket.

And whats this about high standards set for himself?

How do you know what standards he sets himself?

Or is it more about what standards you set for the club?

You want the lot ey? and all for under £300 a season.

Get real you clown, Pollit has been a cracking player for this club but moaners gunna moan.

This subject has also been broached recently and I stated that competition for shirts is indeed a healthy scenario ! What do you folk think about about fetching Paul Robinson for back up ? He is rumoured to be wanting away from Blackburn this transfer window !

We spoke about this possibility yesterday, also.

Back-up? I’d make him first choice. The combined salary of he and Ali might be beyond what Whelan and RM want to spend on goalkeepers, though.

          Just a thought.

“he tonks it to the touchline and it either goes straight out for a throw or Boycie and Beu have to jump 3 metres in the air to head it.”

He’s not doing that on his own initiative. It’s obviously what he’s been instructed to do.

Wigan do try to play the ball out of defence more than most teams.

habsi is ok for wigan but if he gets hurt then i fear the worst pollit would not be back up at any other club

Ali signed for Wigan on the guarantee that he’s be first choice keeper. If Robinson signed, he probably wouldn’t be, then Ali would be off and we’re back to square one.

          Just another thought.

I have a slight inkling that Ali is perhaps not instructed to kick the ball directly out of play and perhaps on the training ground he doesn’t.
