Did you stay away at some point during the Swain, Coyle, Rosler, McKay & Joyce periods as well?
No. Never missed a game. In Swain’s defence, we had a squad of bargain basement ‘hasbeens and never will be’s’. He was sold down the river when he took the job. Was Coyle, Rosler, McKay worse than we are at present? I’m not sure. Was Joyce’s tenure as bad as we are now?
The difference there though was, when a change was needed to be made, it was done. Not dragged out longer than a Corrie storyline, which is the case at the moment. And there is my gripe, and the reason I am staying away.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the club, I really do. But I don’t agree with how its been being run…I don’t like it. And although Paul Cook does come over as a decent guy, personally, I am surprised that he hasn’t held his hands up and resigned on principle, saying “I’ve gone as far as I can go, its not good enough this”. Paul Jewell would have. People will say this is because of the compo he will miss out on if he does, but wouldn’t a manager who respects themself have the integrity to hold their hand up and admit its just not working? You would hope so.
If this compo thing is the stickler, it needs ironing out and paying off, or an amicable settlement being agreed. Its the none activity that has made me boil over. Clubs a laughing stock. I am as annoyed with our administration and club management, as I am Paul Cook. If or when he goes, I hope he is soon back in football and can build his career up again in the lower leagues. I mean that. But as it stands, him and Wigan Athletic are just not working.
