right then, the premier league usually consists of three mini leagues. the teams at the top trying to win the thing or get into europe, the teams in the middle who are probably not good enough to get into europe but not in a relegation fight either and those teams at the botton trying to avoid the drop. we happen to be in the latter so we have to be looking at beating the teams around us. these games are must win games for us. when we play teams who are mid table they are deffinately winnable games or games we should be picking points up from. when we play the top teams we dont expect to win and any points picked up is a bonus. and if it was that simple WE WOULDNT BE IN THIS BLOODY MESS WOULD WE.

adam, yes we have lost to the teams around us and that is why we are in the brown stuff at the moment. if we had beaten these teams we would be higher up the league and talking about safety and you probably wouldnt have asked the question in the first place.
It hasn’t to be taken literally just like football hasn’t to be taken too seriously ! On saying that, needs must I suppose ! :cheer:
I’m sorry, but I will not listen to that. I admit sometimes I wonder why I spend so much time and money following Wigan, But never have I thought football shouldn’t be taken seriously.

You’re not one of those who, due to getting a couple of hours away fromn the wife/wench, you stand in the concourse under the stand drinking as much of the pisswater they serve up before the game, and at half time are you?
I see fellas all the time, using going to the match as an excuse for a few pints. Makes me laugh. If you want a drink, bloody well have one! A wench that tries to stop you is a wench you can do without.
I’d say it was pretty simple really. If you’re playing against a team you know you will be competing with at the end of the season then a game against them is usually ‘must win’ for the simple fact it means they get 0 points and you get 3. Yes there are another 36 games to go and you could lose and still survive, but at the start of the season when you plan your season you will mark that game as ‘must win’.On the other side of the coin, Man Utd would see games against the lesser clubs as ‘must win’ otherwise they’ll fail to win the title. What they get off the sides around them is a bonus. If they were to drop points against the lesser sides, then their games against Man City and the like would become ‘must win’. IE – City will see their trip to OT as ‘must win’.
A very good reversal Egg.. I unfortunately work with a few mancs and they still say that at our place last season playing us was a “must win” game, but it wasn’t, and they said that we cost them the league :) faf
If you are playing the last game of the season and need to win to stay up, then surely there must have been a few previous games that were “must win”..
