Maybe I’m getting old, but that just sounds like a load of reverb and noise to me.
What’s the point in that Mama Cass effort in the middle?
Heather off Eastenders?
Makes ‘Josh and his free text band’ sound fantastic, ffs!
English please?
Actually I would like to know what your talking about I dont get ANY of that, Just that one of them is a fat bird.[/quote]Mama Cass- Ask yer mam or dad.
Heather off Eastenders- Watch it.
Josh and his free-text band- Watch the T-Mobile advert.
Don’t understand any of it? Well sorry lad, but if you’re that docile, I suggest you spend a bit more time AWAY from this site, and do a bit of reading and research. Broaden your horizons a bit, instead of posting drivel on here.
Honestly, you think I’m being harsh on you. I’m not.
20 January 2010 at 10:35 pm #18960First of all I dont think your being harsh, just think you’re retarded.
Second, I could have told you or searhed up on what things mean BUT why have you just put them all for no reason?21 January 2010 at 2:55 am #18996Your gettin old VAT thats why you play legions and back street pubs while they make records and write their own stuff ! And as for fat lady,if the guitarist just happened to be black and have a large affro he would be Jimmy Hendrix would he !!! The sound quality doesnt do them justice on that video. Not that you would know much about sound quality with your Chad valley guitar and amp !!!

Sh!t apologies Vat, I do now realise what you are talking about, just thought you was putting random phrases on the thread for no reason, as I forgot there was a fat bird in the band, I actually thought it was a joke at first tbh when I clicked the link.

Oh please! Anybody can do that. There are so many bands who are slugging it out and dragging their ar*es around so-called ‘band venues’ in this area alone, it’s a friggin joke. Most of them are absolute shyte mate. Not like the truth? Well sorry, but you’re getting it.
For a start, let’s talk ‘wonga’. How much are your ‘mates getting paid at these, ahem, ‘gigs’? Is it a few beers? Or Free? Well, I’m sorry matey, but that wouldn’t cut it for me.
And the next thing, how old are they? Still ‘doing it for fun’ are they? Give em time, they’ll soon realise…………I’ve known some absolutely superb bands and guitarists who have slugged it out, played the Cavern, Manchester Academy, etc, and they are now doing nothing. Why? Because they are ten a penny. It’s alright writing your own stuff and making records, but writing a hit is a different matter. I have mates who played at ‘V Festival’. Guess what they are doing now? Nothing. They’ve packed it in.
You see, modern music is totally different to what it was. 95% of commercial music is absolutely shyte. Manufactured. (You know it’s true)You mock me for doing what I do, and yet I bet most people couldn’t do it. What, when you’re playing to 30-odd year olds one night, and the next it’s pensioners? Let’s see your pals do that. And do you know the best thing? I get paid decent money to do so. So I can’t be bad. I have people phoning ME, not me phoning them. Think about that. It puts money in my pocket. That does for me. No desire of fame from me.
“Chad Valley Guitar & Amp”. Mate the guitars I have played over the years include a Fender Stratocaster (Authentic American one), a Gretsch 6120W, Epiphone, Gibson, etc. Hardly ‘Chad Valley’. Amps include Fender and Peavey. Please whatever you do, don’t try and talk clever to me about music. You’re talking to a big-boy now.
Now, antagonism aside, do you think that your friends would be open to some help and advice, with things like their sound system and set up? Sound is where most come unstuck, and yet it is usually so simple to address. And also, sometimes you can have too much going on in a song, that it just sounds like a mess.
No honestly, the offer is there. I’m going to watch that clip again, and I’ll take note of everything and will opine further.
21 January 2010 at 2:09 pm #19018Right, Ok. I’ve watched it again, and some other clips.
Some of it sounds………very good. Some Kinks/Stones in there, I think.
Some of it sounds……….a mess. Just out of tune and out of sync.
Instrumentalists………sound fine, mostly. Some parts need brushing up.
I think the main problem for me is the female vocalist. It just doesn’t work. I don’t know the relationship between the band members, but I’d definitely look at having her as a percussionist and ‘backing vocalist’, rather than THE vocalist. She just sounds like she’s wailing, and really is out of image with the others. I’d say that one of the lads should do all main vocals. (The guitarist?) and if he feels like he’s not good enough, they need to recruit a strong vocalist, in a similar image to themselves.
Honestly, if they do that, and also tighten up the melodic structure of their songs, I think they’d be a lot better, and have more success.

Can tell you like music Vat, You blow your own trumpet a lot ;)
21 January 2010 at 8:20 pm #19060there are better bands out there then this band in this genre.i do have to say the vocalist is a tad ropey and like phil said them been filmed on a camara phone does not put them in a good light
22 January 2010 at 12:52 am #19082Vat. They are from Minneapolis, where psychedelic bands are 2 a penny ! They are mates having a bit of fun ! Check out their Myspace for a better idea of them ! This sort of music is big in certain parts of America and they tour all over. On the writing their own stuff and lasting the distance then yeah your right, how many bands last ? Not many ! But doing original stuff is a must for me personally and cover bands or artistes are merely musicians going through the motions ! Not really a talent to me as a musician myself ! If you can write your own stuff then I can see no reason to ” Sell Out ” I could not stand up on stage and play covers when I have penned my own stuff it would feel completely soulless ! That is just my opinion though and I appreciate there is a market for cover bands/artistes but sorry but it aint for me mate ! No matter how much money you can make !
22 January 2010 at 1:50 am #19089My music tastes are very much ” Underground ” thats were the real raw talent lies. If they sign to a big label then they are tainted by ” The Man ” and they have their freedom taken away from them including their talent ! They are coerced into making changes for the benefit of the record company who have no real interest in them, just their own fat wallets ! The majority entertain for the sheer love of it and dont aspire to be anyone else but themselves however talented they may be ! They put records out on independent labels and know too well that the rewards will be minimal. These meagre rewards go straight back into the ” Pot ” and that helps them maintain their momentum in both song writing and gigging. There are thousands of unsigned bands out there as you know and some have so much talent its a crying shame that they are kept away from the mainstream listener but as I have said , that comes at a price ! So I say save it for the minority who appreciate real music !
KEEP MUSIC EVIL
22 January 2010 at 4:02 am #19099Ok, fair enough, I never realised they were from America. Still doesn’t make up for their faults though.
Look mate, thing is when your 33 with a family to support and bills to pay, it’s a bit different than being a sweaty student type who can pi** around all day with guitars, smoking a bit of pot, and generally doing the stuff Bob Dylan was doing 50 years ago. It gets to a point where you have to ‘get real’. No, honestly. That’s the facts of life.
Take this band, who are friends of mine: http://www.thesmallparty.com
Decent band, original stuff, the guitarists are fantastic players, and they are as passionate about music as anybody. They’ve played all kinds of places, Manchester Academy, The Cavern, etc…..I jammed with them in the past. At one point we were forming an ‘R.E.M.-esque’ band. I decided to go solo and do what I do. I’m glad I did.
…they’ve packed in. I think it got to the point where they were all like “Well lads, we’re 32 now. We’ve had bits and bobs of interest from labels, we’ve done a lot of gigs, been on radio, and had a good response from the internet fraternity…..but, we can’t go any further. We’re all kind of settled, got kids and that now….”
The stark reality.
I’ve got CD’s of MY OWN songs, penned and recorded over the passed ten years or so. But they ain’t gonna pay my bills I’m afraid.
Been asked to join 4 bands over the past year. Reason I didn’t was simple. I can’t afford to be in a band.22 January 2010 at 8:43 am #19103:roll:
