Linked with him again but apparently talking to him this time after meeting his 4.5m release clause from Hercules after they were relegated from the Spanish top flight. I wonder if this will pave the way for Rodders to leave, i can see Boselli getting another chance and Valdez is a big strong striker, Could be good ammo for Boselli to play off. Here’s hoping anyway.

Do some of you men actually watch the game? Boselli was terrible practically every game. He had plenty of chances but looked woeful in front of goal. I would love to be proved wrong but i really cant see how this fella has the attributes to regularly score goals in the Premier league. He can hardly bloody run!

true dat he’s garbage which is why i think we should cut our losses. If we dont though I would love to see him do well, i just cant see it happening

              League: 5 (3) 0 goals
              FA Cup: 0 (0) 0 goals
              League Cup: 4 (0) 1 goal

FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

Boselli made 9 starts for Wigan in all competitions, plus 3 sub appearances.

He had a total of 19 shots, so that’s 19 shots in 12 games – 1.5 shots per game.

No exactly plenty of chances is it?

Of these chances, 9 were on target which is 47%

Compare this to Rodallega – 36 games with 142 shots = 4 shots per game, 45 on target = 31%

I’d disagree that he’s poor in front of goal. You don’t finish as top goal scorer in any top class league if you can’t score. He could be accused of being shot-shy, or maybe he didn’t get the service – bearing in mind it was at the beginning of the season where we were hardly tearing up trees.

Edit: Sorry Jay, didn’t see your post.

its alot easier to get a higher percentage of shots on target if you have alot less. rodallega is just an all round better player even though i dont rate rodallega that much.

Thanks Taz. It’s like all these sitters he supposedly missed….I can remember one.

                  Yes I know.
My post wasn’t meant as a comparison to Rodallega to see who’s best. (I could have compared him to Sammon – 1.14 shots per game, 62% on target, or Di Santo 1.7 shots per game 46% on target)

It was meant to merely prove he isn’t ‘woeful’ in front of goal, and he didn’t have a pan full of changes to score last season. Had his shot to game ratio been 4 or 5, and had his percentage on target been something like 20%, then yes, I have agreed that he had loads of chances and his shooting was woeful. He simply didn’t have enough chances to prove himself. Perhaps it was down to a lack of supply, or maybe a lack of confidence.

Boselli’s failing was in adapting to the pace and physicality of the game during the build-up play.

I don’t see how you can judge a player on so few appearance – and when he did start, he was usually taken off just after half time.

In those 2 sentences it looks to me that:
                  a) you have judged him regardless of how many appearances he made
                  b) highlighted that even the manager who spent so much on him & fought so hard to get him wound up in a relatively short space of time rating him less than Rodallega, Di Santo & Sammon.

Its not surprising therefore that plenty of Latics fans don’t rate him either

And in that one short post you have proven that you will pounce upon anything you feel will start a cyber fight…..

So, in response, yes you can judge whether a player has adapted to the pace and physical aspects of the British game by watching him in so few matches.

Adaptation is an an ongoing process, where you can see the progress from game to game. It’s the same as judging how a player is recovering from an injury.

Boselli wasn’t used to the pace or physical nature of the British game, and wasn’t showing any signs of developing quickly enough – and that was the opinion of Martinez .

Judging a player’s ability from so few game is totally different matter altogether. You simply cannot say a player is poor by watching so few games.

It has been stated on numerous occasions that it was the player and his agent who engineered a move to Genoa, and Martinez confirmed this in his recent Q&A session. To me that would suggest it is not the manager who doesn’t rate him.

And no, it’s not surprising that plenty of Latics fans don’t rate him either considering there are plenty of them that think Dave Whelan pockets all the money received from player sales, N’ Zogbia plays on the ‘wrong wing’ and 4-4-2 will solve everything.
