But in the greater scheme of things, today’s defeat has some positives.
It let’s our players totally focus on our league campaign, the bread and butter, and if we had a Wembley appearance to look ahead to, then there would be No doubt the players focus would be affected.
And without wanting to rock the boat, I will be glad to see the back of the gloryhunting day trippers. Call it small minded or whatever, I will be glad to get back to the 8000 or so regulars. The way they rose to walk out today at the second goal, it rather pissed me off. Bye bye and don’t come back anytime soon. The game? We lost fair and square. Had our chances first half, didn’t take them. Mark Hughes gave them a pep talk at half time and they showed their level in the second half. No complaints, best team won. Perhaps our squad limitations were shown, with us having cup tied players missing and chucking in Hunt who, no disrespect, is a bit part player. Would having a youngster like Callum Lang on the bench have been better? I was relieved that Burn wasn’t sent off, sensible reffing from Oliver. Just saw the replay, it was a pen, but also he made a genuine attempt to win the ball, and got close to it. Fair enough. Fair play to Mark Hughes walking on at end and shaking all our players hands. We gave them a game, he knew that.
Unlucky, lads. We move on now and concentrate fully on getting promoted. No more distractions, no room for slip ups. Good luck to Southampton at Wembley, although it’s looking like being a same old same old big boys final.

You watched a different game than me we were the better team.

18 March 2018 at 10:09 pm #167554I’m just bitter and if you think they were better fair enough but the FA CUP needed us in it but that’s a different thread.
18 March 2018 at 11:42 pm #167558The actual powers that be don’t want little Wigan in the last four, not when it boils down to it. They’ll be quite happy with who they have got in the semis. I reckon a Chelsea v Spurs final, a replay of the 69/70 final.
Imagine if a Latics v Rochdale Semi had happened. The F.A. wouldve been balking.
Southampton WERE better, but we gave them a really good game. Had we took a chance in the few we had in the first half, I think we could’ve won. That said, they scored two, Walton did that world class penalty save, and also pulled off a couple of other great saves….They should’ve scored when Byrne passed straight to their player in our area…I was sure they’d score. What a save. So we could easily have lost 4 nil.
We lost but with our heads held high. We move on now and every game we play now is a cup final.
18 March 2018 at 11:51 pm #167561All the neutrals sat in the bar in Corellejo said we were the better team. The first half in particular we looked like the premier league team, bossed possession and created a few good chances. A jammy goal to give them the lead the player just whacked it and it just missed the goalie and player stood on line. No for me and many others we gave has good as we got over 90 mins, the 2-0 scoreline flattered them even with the penalty miss. Well done boys, did us proud.

The Chelsea v Spurs final, was 66/67. The 69/70 final was Chelsea v Leeds, the finest example of the ‘beautiful game’.
Oh and BTW, the best team always wins.

Haven’t I heard the revered Mr Morinhio say, on more than a few occasions “The best team lost”?!!! Must be right.
Anyway, we were brill. It was a great game of football and the Wigan team put a bloody good shift in. I’ve enjoyed this ‘Cup’ rnu. Well done and thanks. What a fantastic penalty save.

OK sorry, if that’s what he’s said. Mr Mourinho is always right, isn’t he?

Fair one about the dates. I used to be able to roll off the cup final details of most years, but as I’m getting older, my memory isn’t the same.

Down here in a snowy Midlands pub the football pundit behind the bar said to me “If you didn’t know then you couldn’t figure out who the Premier League team was.”
That was to me a huge compliment for Wigan, so let’s now concentrate on promotion. Please.
19 March 2018 at 2:12 am #167575Bang on there for me vat we didn’t take our chances in the first half and they upped their game in the second half. Glory hunters piss me right off, all 5,000 of um. Why can’t they turn up for league games and get a good atmosphere going, suppose they’ll all be back come may anyway concentrate on the league, up the tics“Glory hunters piss you off”? Well, all Wigan fans don’t live in Wigan and are unable to go to every home game. So are we not supporters?
Think of the TV revenue, a near capacity crowd, think like a business man!

Give me the actual hard-core support over these bandwagoners who turn up for cup games, any day. Funny how many rose and left today as the second goal went in. The proper supporters quite rightly stayed to applaud the lads off for their great cup run and efforts.
And no, somebody who goes to odd games, namely big cup games, is not on a par supporter wise than a regular, or season ticket holder of a supporter.
So you went today? So you’ll be at the Oldham game on Good Friday, then?
19 March 2018 at 5:07 am #167578This bandwagon jumper came over from Australia for the Northampton game in September last year and it was cancelled due to international call ups at the last minute.
I’ve just lost a $200 deposit on a $1300 flight back to the UK due to our defeat yesterday.
Not all ‘bandwagon jumpers’ are equal.

I was referring to the wigan based support, if you live away and can’t get or come to certain games that’s fair enough, it’s the wigan public that turn up for big games that’s the problem, ie 19000 on for City, 8500 for Rochdale a couple of days later. -
