Yes, listening to Gerald Sinstadt, it would have been March 1986.
I do not know when, or care, when the rugby played Castleford, but he refers to Everton signing Warren Aspinall, which was on 4 February 1986.
The piece featured both Latics and Wimbledon, which is a ‘tennis town’, who were going for and achieved promotion to the first division finishing third behind Norwich and Charlton. Latics were going for promotion from the third division but finished fourth behind Reading, Plymouth and Derby the year before play offs were introduced.
I don’t know why Doris was invited by the BBC for opinions on Wigan Athletic. As the ‘let’s all be friends’ brigade point out ‘They are two different sports?’ They didn’t ask Boris Becker for comments about Wimbledon.

Wouldn’t expect you too, but that’s how I figured it out.
Maurice is long gone of course but administration certainly didn’t do anything to mend the wounds albeit with a few inaccuracies but when has the truth meant anything.
Rugby fans don’t like playing 2nd fiddle and their ego won’t allow them to accept that that’s the case.

Tried to for the football club yes but never managed it hence why no bid was made for the club which is what the admins dined out on.
Just get the blue and white seats in and charge those parasites the equivalent of what it would cost to run their own stadium. It isn’t down to us to subsidise their operations. Their chums at the council do that and have never done us any favours. I can’t remember the council in Wigan lifting a finger to help our club ever, only when it came to offering support to the idea of a club Wigan which was later proven to be the Cuckoo’s wanting to pinch the stadium from under our feet in our hour of greatest need. Just awful the bias they have always shown towards the Eggs demonstrated yet again with Robin Park. If these parasites were to stay as our tenants then all bars and catering etc need to be closed at Robin Park on match days especially while on favourable rent terms.
Mutty has pointed out one thing they do to help. They did a couple of other big things during admin also.
