13 January 2020 at 10:41 am #183969They’ll come to a point when they’ll have to due to poor crowds and people speaking with their feet.
There are just under 8,000 Season Ticket holders, and as the home support has constantly hovered around the 8300 mark all season, we are only talking about losing 300 or so casual attendees – not enough to see the owners sit up and take notice.
13 January 2020 at 11:46 am #183974Think you may find that 8000 severely reduced next season if Cooks still here.
13 January 2020 at 10:21 pm #183987Think you may find that 8000 severely reduced next season if Cooks still here.A football club is for life not just for certain managers/players.
Not the same ring to it as dog for christmas, but you get the idea.
13 January 2020 at 11:10 pm #183988Think you may find that 8000 severely reduced next season if Cooks still here.8000 ST at an average of £200 brings in £1.6m.
6000 ST at an average of £200 brings in £1.2m.I’m guessing that the owners have relegation clauses in place (usually around 40%), and that wages go down if the side goes down. It may well be that the owners are looking at the income needed to be a 4th bottom Championship side versus the income needed to be a top-6 league one side, and have come to the conclusion that the amount they have to subsidise the club to be 4th bottom isn’t worth their while, and they’d get better value for their HK$ by owning a top L1 side.
Its also a possibility that sacking Cook after relegation means his payout is 40% less.
13 January 2020 at 11:16 pm #183989Think you may find that 8000 severely reduced next season if Cooks still here.I think we will get better crowds next year if we are relegated. This board is living proof that a winning team is easy to support. One thing that shines on PC’s CV is his ability to get his team out of league one.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!13 January 2020 at 11:21 pm #183990Its also a possibility that sacking Cook after relegation means his payout is 40% less. What we would then need actually is a proven manager at L1 level.
And we have him. No need to pay anything out.13 January 2020 at 11:38 pm #183991Thanks to The Brexit referendum the Hong Kong dollar is now 20% more valuable v the pound, meaning that their investment in the team goes 20% further than it would have gone back then. I have just found my first benefit to Brexit, which I am delighted to find given I work in international sales and the past couple of years have been a nightmare and it continues to be as a result. Bit of politics for you gents. Imagine where we would be with 20% less investment!!
14 January 2020 at 12:03 am #183992no point changing anything now.
Same bunch of ‘strikers ‘ and slow paced midfielders And more importantly the same board of directors.
The record is firmly stuck , wish I could be more positive.
I exclude all the under 18s from the above ( they will be very important next year )14 January 2020 at 5:58 pm #183997Perhaps (& I’ll get my tin hat ready for this),the board are quietly preparing for League 1 again. In Cook they have a proven manager at that level, plus most of the team are better suited to that level also. The youngsters will get more of a run out in League 1, & if folk are saying they are as good as they are, we might end up ripping League 1 again.
I, personally am not saying that I want League 1 football again. I dont! But sometimes, one has to take a step backwards in order to take two forward.
Now! Where is my tin hat??
14 January 2020 at 7:26 pm #183999There seems to be this weird view that Cook is the man when we go back into league 1. He did win it but he had a whole bunch of players who had played at championship level. He did not win it with a squad he had fashioned so why is everybody convinced he knows what he is doing. If Cook is here next season we are fooked.
15 January 2020 at 3:27 pm #184010Well he had success down there with other clubs and what exactly do you think his squad will look like? Hardly going to get rid of every player are we. It will be this squad give or take.
15 January 2020 at 3:38 pm #184011Well he had success down there with other clubs and what exactly do you think his squad will look like? Hardly going to get rid of every player are we. It will be this squad give or take.He did but in league 2 with Pompey and Chesterfield. It hardly makes him a proven Div 1 manager as many on here are saying. My point is it wasn’t his building job here that won us the title coz most were already here. It seems as though some are desperate to make a case for him staying when we get relegated. It is his management style and skills and failure to learn from mistakes that is the reason he must go. We need new ideas and strategies not the the same old tired excuses.
15 January 2020 at 3:43 pm #184013He took Chesterfield into the playoffs when they were tipped for the drop. With better players he will do a better job as he proved.
He isn’t that leagues version of Steve Bruce or Neil Warnock though I’ll grant you.
15 January 2020 at 3:44 pm #184014He isn’t going anywhere. The owners want him to be in control of the project so that’s that
