9 February 2016 at 4:38 pm #147101Hope they can move it out again after Saturday’s game.
Then they can bring back the old pitch for the next rugby game.9 February 2016 at 5:19 pm #147102The game shouldn’t have been played Friday. The amount of standing water on the pitch (evident from pictures) should have seen it called off and it probably would have been had it not been for Sky.
There is one reason and one reason only why the pitch is always knackered and that’s the location. Hull and Huddersfield don’t have the same issues which rules out both sets of fans beliefs that’s it’s the others fault.
9 February 2016 at 5:40 pm #147103The game would most likely have gone ahead regardless of Sky involvement and there lies the problem when sharing a pitch with a rugby club.
“The pitch has deteriorated significantly since November but we were anticipating that it would be robust enough to last until the end of the season”, says Jonathan Jackson. That anticipation was obviously based on the belief that a rugby game wouldn’t have taken place on a pitch that clearly wasn’t fit for a football match.
9 February 2016 at 6:43 pm #147104Interesting point that JJ is acting as spokesman about relaying the pitch.
Shared? No – it’s Latics who are putting up the money.
9 February 2016 at 9:42 pm #147106Just pay the fat bastards lease up and pack the fuckers off to the shitbok and be done with it.
9 February 2016 at 10:46 pm #147107It is very interesting that the Latics are stumping up for the pitch, I thought we were tenants just like the Rolly Pollies. So if indeed we are tenants should the landlord not pay for the renovations or as we all probably know the Landlord and the so called tenants of Wigan Athletic are the same thing. Same owners so what you are saying Horc could be possible.
Not sure if they would move to Horwich but how about they stood on their own two feet and built themselves a new home. Not sure they would do that either as the cost of such a project would divert the money away from their perennial operation of buying success.
Nice thought though Horc but one of wishful thinking rather than one that would be a dream come true. Maybe just maybe if in a couple of seasons we are back in the top flight it may.9 February 2016 at 11:02 pm #147108Was near the ground last night after my weekly five a side sufferings and all the lights were on with nobody around and took a look through the gates.a the lights were on couldnt work out why
The ground is in a bad spot but how much did this land cost back in the 90s?
Not much I bet given the proximity of the river and that fact it used to house the towns rubbish tip and sewage tanks.
Hardly belgravia is it but it proves we are showing some ambition and promotion is priority this year by the looks of it if they are relaying it now.
The eggs should face pitch inspections just like we have to and no way should that game have been played.10 February 2016 at 1:58 am #147109Interesting point that JJ is acting as spokesman about relaying the pitch.Shared? No – it’s Latics who are putting up the money.
Is that something that you know for definite or something you’re just guessing at as a result of it being Jonathan Jackson being the one who is talking about it?
10 February 2016 at 4:31 am #147110Up the rent for the chubsters tis the only way forward
10 February 2016 at 10:42 am #147111Does it make much difference to the Slutch Rats playing on grass or not. I wouldn’t have thought that it did apart from it meaning they have to have a shower before they go to the pub.
10 February 2016 at 11:08 am #147112Enough about the fans what about the players :silly: :woohoo:
10 February 2016 at 12:54 pm #147113Interesting point that JJ is acting as spokesman about relaying the pitch.Shared? No – it’s Latics who are putting up the money.
Do you have an official link to that fact, or are you assuming because JJ was interviewed, then Latics have put up the money?
Does the cost of pitch relaying or ground maintenance feature in the Latics Annual Accounts?
I agree that the pitch is a mess, but as Egg has said, its the location – Huddersfield & Hull play as many league games on their pitch without it turning into a mud bath every February. In fact, when you were premier league, there would have been 7-8 less games played on it at this time of year and it still always looked shite.
I read somewhere that there is a giant septic tank under the pitch that would have been costly to remove at the time of construction, so DW went for the cheaper option and left it in situ to send its poisonous gases up through the land, which prevents the grass from growing during the cold months.
