Great interview on BBC with Gary Caldwell…..Certainly given me renewed optimism for our survival battle. Has a huge love for our club unlike his predecessor whose love was for himself. Solid, calculated statements about his strategy for success….no wild fantasy predictions. I for one will get behind him……Wednesday may not bring instant success but I’m hopeful he can lift the demoralised group to win more than we lose in the next 15……

After yesterday’s belated statement then no ambition takes it to a new level. The Dansons now going to invest zilch……not only on the pitch but the whole nine yards. So many players out of contract and loans expired means they have been disincentivsed to stay . Thought 3 years ago we had got the golden ticket but now looks like purchasing the ground and out of duty were the real reasons they purchased the club.Of course we thank them for rescuing us but really believed they had a modicum of ambition. Keeping the senior Wigan staff in the dark is wicked……they’ve  been bombarded by the press and supporters and no wiser than us. Leaves a bad taste with a lot of us…..zero transparency and now questioning their honesty. Lucy’s having to come yesterday to address the staff who have had enough financial insecurity to last a lifetime only came about because of the leak……..wouldn’t have happened otherwise. Shows they really have no idea how to run a community football club ,this certainly puts their integrity in question. Im disgusted and shocked at the way they’ve gone about this. How the F### do they think season tickets will shift with this uncertainty???…They can shove their early bird sales…..

With this sustainability model, player sales, lack of investment in players, the taking away of our ownership of the DW it is making us a really poor proposition for a potential takeover. It is becoming very similar to the pre Whelan days but then we did own Springy so the situation is developing into a worse situation than then.

So it’s no hidden secret, Tickles off this summer. Whether it’s to Bristol City or elsewhere he’s off for a reported £2-£3million.

So what happens to that money ?. Isn’t this Danson’s master plan

            “SELF SUFFICIENT”?

Were you bring young lads through, give them game time then hopefully sell on for good money and clauses ?.

Caldwell should be given every penny of that. For me some towards Callum Wright’s wages or push the boat out and get Taylor.

I can only see one thing happening, that money will get pumped back into the running of the club like the money we got for Lang, Hughes and Aasguard.

If we don’t invest in sorry but it’s another dog fight. Do not be blinded by last season’s ending remember the first half as well.

The transfer window starts in earnest Monday so can only hope we get a couple of nice surprises. Fletcher signs for Huddersfield so Taylors exit looking nailed on. Surely investing the potential Tickle funds in him could reap big dividends…..that’s if he fancies coming back….Like everyone else I cant see it but a couple of quality acquisitions are a must if the owners really do have ambition and faith in Caldwell. The Power and Bennett signings look shrewd but need a lot more through the door in double quick time. If the Chelsea rumours about Bettoni are true then that’s a big one allowed to slip through the net. Personally I think it’s a silly career move…..u21 academy football for the foreseeable future wont aid his development……can only hope we get him back via a loan. No news on Matt Smith so again fingers crossed otherwise a ball player in the middle will be a difficult one to replace on our budget. Not heard any noises about potential new investors or owners but then again these people don’t do their business in public so we’d be last to know but looking like deep pockets is here for the foreseeable future.

I was a big fan of Matt Smith but tbh I think it’s time he moved on. Kinda reminds me of the Theo Walcott scenario.

He was 28 and they were still saying young Theo Walcott and wondering when his career was going to take off.

Every week you’d think if if if but if never came and it’s not like he weren’t given a chance.

I don’t mind Power well bar the finger pointing and hopefully the lad from Walsall can turn out to be a decent acquisition.

But the main issue is defence and keeper. We need defenders yesterday and a keeper now Tickles on his way out.

Bit of a rumour going about regarding Sam Nombe who I think would be a good addition that’s if it came off.

But the one we want in is Wright his energy is something else. We’d  all like Taylor to come in but knowing the way Danson operates with the debit card there’s more chance of us getting Mbappe.

I keep banging on about it but without financial help from Danson Caldwell will have his hands tied chained then put in a straight jacket.

No one’s saying 10s of millions just give him Tickles money cause the last 2 managers saw jack sh*t from the sale of Lang Hughes & Aasguard

Ambition is nil, it’s all about survival on scraps.

                  We released 8 players,

                  6 loans went back,

And none of the 9 players offered extensions have signed yet speaks volumes.

Only McManaman is likely to sign a 12 month deal

I then hear Sheff Weds are in for Taylor and Wright wanted to sign be we could only offer him a 1/3 of what he was on at Plymouth shows you our ambition.

Back into training today I bet we struggled make up a five-a-side knock around.

Honestly,  it’s pathetic potentially 23 players down on last season for pre season training is probably the worse start I’ve ever seen

We need a new owner because he’s basically financially strangulating the club to a slow death.

Pay peanuts you know what you get. Caldwell must be thinking, I got more backing at Exeter. I bet he never thought there’d be virtually nothing to spend.

                  Please sell us Danson please

Beat me to it. Pitiful…..Wednesday nearly bankrupt…..at the front of the queue with Blackburn (260 million in the red)..to sign Joe Taylor…and so far with the fixtures on the horizon we’ve signed 2. Can’t even convince an 18 year old academy player to stick rather than twist . Feel for Caldwell…..surely he was given assurances!!!……What next ?  Rumours Magennis coming back…FF’S……..wish my 3 season tickets had a 60 day refund policy and the F###### future funds I’ve paid……..I really thought at my age I was a lot wiser but obviously I’m a gullible bell end!!!!…….Unless there’s dramatic transfer activity to astound us then it’ll be another miserable, underperforming season in a 1/4 full stadium. I check several times a day on the news outlets praying for new decent ownership. For all the appreciation we have for Danson saving us the truth is we’ll be run on a mid table national league budget……probably be there in a couple of seasons…………had optimism when I bought season tickets but that has been draining away daily since.

Tickle gone and no complaints…..lad thoroughly deserves to succeed…….a true Wigan man. Latest name branded about to arrive before Friday, Sonny Perkins from Orient. Couldn’t hold down a 1st team position last season, limited to 5 starts because of various injuries!!….Caldwellsaid he wanted robust players. …Figures………this is where we are as far as recruitment goes!!!

We keep hearing about a takeover. Probably rumours but one of the potential buyers wants Latics and the DW Stadium. Tickle is the last of the assets this owner has sold following Hughes, Langy and Thelo out of the door. Obvious he has no interest in our club and hasn’t even got the decency to communicate with fans, just leaving that to his puppet board and senior employees to pull the wool over our eyes. A bloody shambolic mess. Why can’t he just sell the ground and our club to whoever wants it if he isn’t interested.

                        Player

In 2020/2021 both Danson and his then bumchum Lenegan tried to buy the stadium and Christopher Park while we were in administration but failed due to the fact that the administrator thought this would devalue the club and make it far harder to sell us so the pair pulled out.

A few years later the opportunity arose again and the rest is history.  One of Danson’s main priority’s was to remove the stadium from the clubs ownership so any future sale would not include the stadium.

And why?, because he couldn’t face being a tenant to a new landlord. Can you imagine if a new owner stepped in and bought us?, Danson and his beloved rugby would again be tenants.

A multi billionaire a tenant? Unheard of !! paying rent? Omg no !!!  The sheer thought must have made his skin crawl not being in full control so that’s were we are a club with no assets.

Then the recent rumour that, if he sells the club he prefers to remain as a shareholder holding 20%-25%.

                          Again why?

So “if” the new owner just so happened to strike it lucky and we were had success he’d basically still have his finger in the pie all off the back of someone else’s hard work and investment.

So now there’s talk of a few potential investors but the sticky point is, a couple of potential buyers want to buy Latics and the ground (that 100% won’t happen) and another so called wants the football, the rugby and the stadium (again that definitely will not be happening).

Danson wants his cake and eat it that’s now loud and clear.

You’d think he bought the club to save us, most definitely not, he wasn’t arsed about us not one bit arsed, he wasn’t in 2020 and he  wasn’t in 2023.

He sole purpose in buying us was to get his hands on the stadium, nothing else.

When the stadium naming rights was up he gave it to his close to heart charity, fine, but there was a potential sponsorship earner at a time when we desperately needed money coming in.

What he’s done at the club is to stop all investment, sell players and use that money to run the club with little on field investment.

Ask Maloney, or ask even Lowe they both found out soon enough the truth regarding budgets and next to go under the bus will be Caldwell.

Danson’s slogan when he took over was

“Self sufficient” and that’s fine but if you sell a player say a Lang Aasguard Hughes Tickle some or if not all needs to be put back into the squad not to be used on paying the bog cleaners, stewards or the electric bill.

Danson is no better than the Hong Kong crew or Talal’s frithful outfit. We hear nothing from a faceless boardroom, money from player sales being spent on running the club

Long gone are the days of BELIEVE it’s more like DISBELIEF. Never did I think that we’d be a club treading quicksand when he took over and the lifeline rope he threw is slowly slipping away.

I was slated some while back for having a pop at the women’s football side being formed. I had nothing against it expect for its timing.

Money was being poured into it at a time when we desperately needed money investing into the squad. Lots of clubs don’t have a women’s sides simply because of the drain it has on a clubs fiance’s but Danson was happy to pump millions into it while the quality of our squad sunk to an all-time low

So we’re do we go from here?

We need a new owner that’s for sure because this guy doesn’t want us. He prefers to lose around £5-£6million a year throwing money at a fringe sport

Why will we struggle to be sold?

Because Danson has basically stripped us to the bone. He’s sold the last of the big ticket items in Tickle for an undisclosed fee basically so he doesn’t have to tell the fans how much “It’s my ball” & all that as though it’s none of our business.

Let’s not forget, had we not have struck lucky with Wright and Taylor and Taylor’s goals we’d be starting this season coming in L2 that’s a fact.

Wright wanted to sign but the club could only offer him a 3rd of what he was on at Plymouth.

When Danson took over I honestly thought that he would come in, stabilise us, strip it back, invest, and watch us grow and start challenging for promotion.

What I’ve seen is stabilise, strip it back, then strip back abit more, then some more, then squeeze it, then remove the stadium.

At more than one game we had one turnstile open for the West Stand and queues around the ground with less than 2000 on and away fans thrown in with home fans so he could save a few bob, that for me was an all time low.

Let’s take the Utd Cup game, ticket and TV money, and the Arsenal the game

Were the fcuk did that all that money go ??

It’s a club going nowhere with an owner who doesn’t give a flying fcuk about us. No wonder fans are walking away in their droves.

We have a manager who will struggle mark my words. He needs the backing of an owner. Danson’s seen how Caldwell has previously operated on pennies and that suits him fine.

Finally, who else looked at this season’s fixtures and weren’t arsed?,

As a loyal fan the past 6 years has taken its toll on me and alot fans enthusiasm with 1000’s walking away. Danson had the chance to make it grow and chose not to.

This season will be painful, it will be 20 times harder than last year and I can’t only see one thing

Relegation dog fight, will I be there ? I will be hand picking my games till he sells. I can’t abide a guy so rich (it’s actually scary how rich he is) invest nothing that it kinda makes me think is he enjoying watching us suffer??.

Brilliant post CW. That captures most everything that every true fan thinks.

Unfortunately I renewed my ST the day before Tickle departed. I genuinely feel this will be the last time for me if this doesn’t get resolved. Even though I’ve renewed, I won’t be attending all the games, just to sit in a down trodden atmosphere. It’s a crying shame, because me and my long-standing football buddies never felt this low in some of the tough season at Springy.

I’ll always say Talal brought the X factor back to the club it was just a crying shame they were clueless with the books & finances and were fiantual led a merry dance by that prick Brannigan who ruined us.

Off the field there was a buzz, a feel good factor, he would come to the supporters bar uninvited and meet fans, happy days both on and off the field.

It’s how a club should feel, hope, promise, a connection with those above win lose draw who cared and the odd giant killing thrown in. Had they had not been ill advised by Brannigan who knows what we could achieved.

Even his light hearted remarks on Twitter and Instagram was refreshing it made the club feel jointed top to bottom.

Yes they got it wrong oh so wrong in the books department. It wasn’t stupidity it was naivety on how to run a football club and poor financial advise.

Anyway we are were we are, a comatosed club living in a suspended state with an owner clearing us out so he can sell what’s left to the highest bidder.

If you asked me what my dream scenario would be it would be some huge investor take us on, build a new 15,000 seater stadium dual purpose with summer music concerts and tell Danson were the F to go.

As I said dream scenario but for now ……..?

Great posts. There are still many supporters who either choose to ostrich their heads or really believe Danson is the second coming . I struggle to imagine any potential investors wanting anything to do with us whilst he retains a stake. What would a buyer be getting with his wedge ? A squad worth nothing, all the assets sold and a ground deeds  in misers bank vault!!!…..Not one of my friends or family have anything but negativity regarding this season and the hope of new ownership is really becoming just a dream. Like CW a Tom Morris to reignite the clubs flames by buying us then leaving the depressing ,crumbling stadium to Danson and the slutch rats would have me dancing on the rooftops…….alas a dream is all it is.

Niskinen ,one of our aledged targets joins Blackpool. Heard 2 weeks ago he was nailed on to be here as Caldwell being his ex manager was very close to him. The £500 a week including win bonuses probably saw that end to that bit of business. Saydee, Costelloe, Moseley, Perkins adds up to about 10 goals for the season so a serious bit of no money transfer magic needed!!!
