But what REALLY is the attraction?Surely Caldwell can’t honestly believe the squad we have is anywhere near good enough? There’s nothing to it. No keeper, shirt on centre backs, midfield and seriously going to lack goals. I honestly see nothing other than a struggle and maybe even a season like Port Vale had last season. Rooted to the bottom of the league all season.
What gets me though is if results are poor, eventually the manager loses his job. Its always the case. I am please we have GC back, but he needs backing. Unless there is a late flurry in the transfer market, I think Latics are buggered. Can’t wait to see the attendance of first home game as I believe loads haven’t renewed. Well a few unproven youngsters have arrived but still no sign of any use of the Sam money that we were told would be used.
There’s about 7 weeks to go before the window closes so most lower clubs will be looking at teams in the leagues above and who’s surplus to requirements and ready to be sent out on loan or told they might not be in their managers plans so start looking elsewhere.
I’m glad to see Cze’s been given a one year deal. My worry is, he won’t be used and thrown out on loan which would be absolutely abysmal.
I don’t care what anyone says, there’s definitely a player in there far better than Bettoni but for whatever reason he’s just not put it together.
I’m hoping maturity and Caldwell giving him a chance we might just have someone who can put the ball in the net when needed.

With the weather so warm in the UK in early July, the decision to not spend money on travel, hotels, training camps etc has proved to be correct. I would imagine a week long trip for the squad plus coaching and medical staff would cost well over £100,000 (300 adult season tickets to fund this one activity).
I think the club should have had at least one decent/unusual away day friendly, personally I don’t do them but to those who do good luck with that lot.
Looking at the players gone and those coming in were back on the never-ending carousel of:
survival-rebuild-survial-rebuild.
I still don’t get why we didn’t think ahead and buy Taylor. Yes he is expensive but it’s not like your buying the unknown. He gives us the one thing every club screams for

The wage bill overall took another drop and there’s money from Tickle and Bettoni (anything from £1million upwards)
There’s rumours we might be entitled to a sell on from Joseph but no one’s confirmed it.
If Taylor did what he did early this year come the summer 2027 we could potentially double or even triple our investment.
I know one thing, if big Dave was in charge he’d had the foresight to buy him that’s for sure.
Personally I think Caldwell’s got his his full and tied behind his back. I bet he thought he’d would be in a better position than Exeter fianatually only to find out, we’re not that much different than them.
Only time will tell but this constant knock it down rebuild scenario means one thing from our owner:

I really don’t think Joe Taylor is the answer and these are the reasons why.
1. He has failed to score on a regular basis for any of his previous clubs. Clubs just don’t loan out players to one if their rivals if they rate him. I spoke to a Luton fan and he hadn’t a good word to say about him citing a drink problem being one of the reasons.
2. He had a fantastic spell of scoring for us then suddenly couldn’t hit a barn door with a frying pan the last 3-4 games. Was this the real Joe Taylor coming out after a freak and unexpected spell of everything he touched hitting the net.
3. His first touch is poor, we saw loads of passes being fired at him only to bounce away and us lose possession.
4. He doesn’t win any headers. We can count on one hand the number of times he actually out jumped his defender.
5. He very often is caught offside. That’s mainly due to him sauntering back when the play switches direction quickly or he tries to steal a march on his defender.
So, this is my opinion only, his goals single handedly kept us up last season and that’s why we all love him. However, if we are gonna spend a few million on a forward I would sooner it be someone who wins headers, who can hold up the ball, has some physicality and can overpower defenders to score headers or head the ball to play others in. 15+ goals a season would be nice.

A few million? Dream on pal. The whole squad at the end of August won’t amount to that, Danson needs to stop the fuckin’ about with the club and get it sold, he isn’t interested so sell up and do one.
No way Danson will spend millions on a striker.

Don’t think we will, was just responding to some fans wanting to sign Joe Taylor who Hudds paid £3m for and will want to recoup most of that. He is not worth anywhere near that, there are better if and a big if, we spend anywhere near that for a striker.

What a journey!Have to completely disagree. His 1st touch is what created goals. He takes the shot early sometimes surprising the keeper. Saydee,Costelloe need 4 touches to make a decision, he doesn’t. One on ones he’s excellent. His role isn’t to win headers, it’s to sit on defenders shoulders ready to go. I’d have him at the drop of a hat……..unfortunately our owner puts that to bed…….instead a load of young kids with potential. Young players that promise but continually fail to deliver……going cheap in the hope Caldwell can do a Lincoln……throw the net far enough you may catch one……..then Eberneezer will cash in and hey presto square 1 reappears.
Ps….Club quote Bettoni now gone for “Significant” compensation fee. Won’t let us bottom feeders know any transfer fees we receive……so we can’t call for whatever the amount is to be reinvested. 2.5 mill approx for Taylor (1 marquee signing)……..pretty sure Aasgaard, Tickle, Hughes,Bettoni etc plus a little back of Dansons sofa rummaging means it’s surely not out of our reach if we do have any REAL AMBITION!!!!
