      Absolute quality

Norwich City fans, disgruntled at how the season has gone, “hijack” the club’s player of the season award, with 40-year-old keeper Carlo Nash, yet to make a senior appearance, winning the race for the prize, reports the Eastern Daily Press.
Norwich are battling to stay in the Premier League and are 18th in the table with two matches remaining, away to Chelsea and at home to Arsenal.
The club’s Barry Butler memorial trophy is given to the player who receives the most votes, with nominations accepted by email and post, as well as by Facebook and Twitter. Around 2,000 fans have already voted on Norwich’s Facebook page, with Nash appearing to be the front runner, according to the report.

With Norwich fighting to stay in the Premier League, David McNally (Norwich City CEO) was asked during a radio interview what relegation would mean for the club.

“The brief is to keep out of the bottom three and that is what we are doing. We will not contemplate relegation, in a sporting sense it is worse than death,” McNally said.

“I would prefer death rather than relegation. There is nothing more important than keeping this football club in the Premier League. We are all focused on that.”

        Death…..!!!!

What a desperate state of affairs this staying in the Premier League has become.

They better get ready for the funeral then because I cannot see them turning their season round.
Nothing boring club with no real passion or history and in a nuclear wasteland as far as football is concerned !
3 clubs in total in an area the size of Lancashire ????
nobody would miss them or the dreadful journey down there whatsoever – blimey they have only been in there 3 seasons and they talk about death of the club FFS!
As much as I dislike Sunderland and there perennial scrap to 37 points the manager Poyet seems a really decent bloke so I hope they stay up but can’t say I am too bothered about rejoining this nonsense next season.

Have to say that I found myself rooting for Norwich this afternoon if only so it prolonged the misery for the perennial lame dogs in the premier league for a few more days.

I wonder when we will get the first suicide that results from football club failure, it can’t be too far off with the way things are going! For any manager or chairman contemplating it might I suggest a hanging from one of the goals or if you are thinking of something more theatrical maybe committing Harikari on the centre spot !

More than desperate, its very sad I think. To come out with a ridiculous statement like that just shows how money has become the dictate before anything else.

I can say though,I’ve really enjoyed the Championship this season and not missed the Premiership one jot.

I’m gonna stick my neck out here and say do I really want Premiership football next season? Give me competing rather than struggling annually any day. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see us at the top, but only if we could compete. I’m afraid this squad wouldn’t be able to in my opinion.

I know attracting good premiership quality players is/would be difficult for a club like ours, especially ones good enough to cut it with the level of spending/wages we offer.

The last 3 premiership campaigns nearly killed my desire to watch football. I don’t want to feel that again.

I think that a lot of people echo your sentiments about how enjoyable the championship has been this season. However, would we be able to retain and/or recruit the quality of player we currently have to maintain or current standing? I think that once the parachute money runs out so will our ability to pay for decent playing staff.

Correct, which is why we have to be promoted in the next 2 years or we will slowly slide down the divisions.

We also have the potential to spend if we get promoted as we will have a nice tidy profit compared to the last time we were promoted.

On the basis of keeping the club cash rich then a return to the premier league is important or is it?
Burnley have just acheived promotion and the parachute payments ended last season and their average gates are lower than ours !
been good to see some of the old Skool faces back at Latics this season after many years away if we go back to the so called promised land then so be it but it won’t have the same feel that it did all those years ago if we reach it again.
Norwich made a dreadful error in sacking Chris Hughton in my opinion who I think would have snaked the points needed to stay up – they get good gates (not surprising given their catchment area) so should be able to sustain championship football.
Don’t think they will be missed given their outback location though.
