It is one thing when a player decides to not wear a poppy for what ever reason but t is another when a footballing body says two of the countries playing can’t wear them as a mark of respect, who the f*ck do FIFA think they are?

Assoles2 November 2016 at 9:26 pm #152049The players should fight back, no Poppies we don’t play!
Fuck the EFL
2 November 2016 at 10:15 pm #152051That would be a good thing. Bloody international breaks fook the season up. Should be scrapped.

3 November 2016 at 1:43 am #152062This has needlessly been blown out of all proportion by FIFA.
Their stance is, “World football’s governing body prohibits political, religious or commercial messages on shirts”The poppy is none of the above in my mind, it’s a symbol of remembrance.
Maybe our FA should offer FIFA some royalties on any poppies sold in the UK. That should swing it for us!

I’ll play devil’s advocate but start by saying that I wear them & do so as an act of remembrance for those who’ve sacrificed their lives for our future’s
That said, I can see FIFA’s logic. To us it is a mark of respect & remembrance, but it’s clear just from James McLean’s stance that some other communities & nations don’t’ see it that way & FIFA can’t be seen to condone that but then refuse other nation’s requests for symbols that mean similar to them but different to others.
However if I was at the FA or playing then I would wear the armband anyway & take any punishment as I knew beforehand that they didn’t allow it
FIFA has kind of made a rod for its own back though by either allowing or not noticing the FAI’s tribute to the Easter rising on their shirts earlier this year3 November 2016 at 1:55 pm #152083But they would turn a blind eye to that wouldn’t they!!!!
I bet there is hardly a countries badge on shirts that doesn’t show something to do with politics or religion.
They see what they want and it’s usually ££££.3 November 2016 at 5:40 pm #152090This has needlessly been blown out of all proportion by FIFA.

For me FIFA should understand each request on it’s own merit. Not just a blanket ban on everything, that makes their life easier if nothing else.Don’t want to get into a political debate about Ireland. But i see Mr McLean was all too happy to wear the FAI shirt, with political logo, without feeling the need to put pen to paper on why he shouldn’t..
3 November 2016 at 6:04 pm #152091But that was ok. Murdering British Servicemen doesn’t count to Jimmy boy.
3 November 2016 at 7:31 pm #152094The teams should go further and instead of lining up as normal for the anthems link arms and alternate England player Scotland player etc and instead of the George Cross in the stands have a huge red poppy in white background and stick two fingers up to the anti British pillocks.
3 November 2016 at 10:07 pm #152100What’s wrong with having a minute silence before the game and leaving it at that? No symbolism, no political or religious connotations, just respectful acknowledgement of those who have lost their lives in conflict. Should it be deemed necessary to also wear the black armband with the poppy included, as has happened before and therefore a precedent set, then why run it past FIFA again and put them in the awkward position of have to rule on it. It would appear the FAI didn’t consult FIFA regarding the Easter Rising commemoration and nothing came of it until now where, as a direct result of the England/Scotland poppy fiasco, it is being investigated. This whole controversy has been orchestrated to whip up public anger over something that had previously remained a sombre and respectful tribute.
3 November 2016 at 10:25 pm #152103No fiasco at all the teams are wearing Poppies and rightly so. End of!
A big middle finger to FIFA, and good on Theresa May for speaking up!
Fuck the EFL
3 November 2016 at 10:51 pm #152106I think they should really stick it up them and emblazon the ground and surrounding area with Poppies.
They should have a fall of poppies from the roof during the National Anthems, poppies on white corner flags and coloured cards on the seats to form large poppies in the crowd.
Stuff FIFA the disrespectful turds.4 November 2016 at 12:18 am #152112Easter rising? Is that something from bake off?
