Would like to see an injection in pace. Absent at Chelsea, didn’t see any improvement yesterday. Done by Jerome for pace until Ali, Caldwell (putting body on the line – similar required) saved the day.

Certainly, not up to playing LHS of defensive 3 (right footer, ltd pace)

Not anti-Ramis, but hope for / expect more ….. mobility, pace-wise.

Of course he was done for pace by Jerome. That’s because Jerome is a very pacey player who is considerably quicker than Ramis, Caldwell, Alcaraz, and many other Premier League centre halves.

I’m sure it’s just your opinion, not fact, that Ramis is not up to playing ‘LHS’, but the common perception is that in a back three you don’t necessarily have to be the quickest if playing left or right of the three as you tend to have a man sweeping up behind you and a wingback as support.

Also, if I’m being picky, I can’t see why being a right footed player has any bearing as he plays to the left of Caldwell, but is still more or less up the middle. If he was playing leftback, then yes, you might have a point.

Personally I thought he had a decent game, looked solid and distributed well – which is pretty much what you ask for in a centre half.[/quote]

I was being a little too kind to Ramis, it appears.

Read below, by way of example, extract from Sunday newspaper (People)

    SHOCKER – Ramis

‘Spaniard is slower than a week in a Mallorca hotel in mid-winter, and is taking time to adjust to the English game’

    Ratings
    – Caldwell 7
    – Figeueroa 5
    – Ramis 4

Exposed to pace, on the left hand side, he’ll be taken to the cleaners by the likes of Valencia, Sinclair, Moses, Dyer, etc. etc. (personal opinion – given current form). Replay the Chelsea penalty to recap…

    Figueroa + Beausejour please.

Ramis, toughing it out with Caldwell and Alcaraz for the other 2 spots, for me

Manure back 3 – Caldwell, Alcaraz, Figueroa (personal opinion)

What position did Figgy play on Saturday I thought he was on the left of three whilst Bozyjoe was on the field

Was Ronnie Stam on the bench? Would have made a better replacement

if you went and read the team sheet you would know wouldn’t you. doh.

agree fully with your post though. good one.

Well, if The People say it’s so, who am I to argue?

‘…is taking time to adjust to the English game’ He’s played three games. How quick is he expect to adjust.

‘…he’ll be taken to the cleaners by the likes of Valencia, Sinclair, Moses, Dyer’ All of those players are wide players (bar Moses, who we’ll probably never see play again at the DW). Ramis is not a full back. The wingbacks are there to track these players with Ramis and Alcaraz or one of the Midfielders doubling up on them.

As I said before, if he was a full back, then yes, he’s way too slow.

De Zeeuw was never the quickest, nor are Tery, Puyol, or Vidic.

Pure and simple.. a number wax lyrical about Ramis. Personally, I have yet to be totally convinced. The People was obviously more disparaging than myself.

We have paid significant money (for Wigan) as I’m sure you appreciate. I would expect to see a return accordingly (improvement on 2011/12)

Quick adaptation to PL : e.g. Kone – One goal and one assist in first 3.
(Ramis – has played 4 games actually, incl. Forest)

He has come up short on numerous occasions to date against the likes of Hazard, Oscar, Cox, and Jerome in one-on-one situations. His lack of pace compounded when he’s been challenged on the left (last man). Review your MOTD clips vs. Chelsea (Hazard, Oscar) by way of example…

Positional play also questionable – Hazard (goal 1 – Chelsea), ball-watching at throw-in (Jerome) in lead up to Stoke (Crouch) equaliser.

Some one made the point, Figueroa is not the best in the air. How the hell can anyone defend in the 6Y box a ball dropping out the sky against 8′ 10” Crouch, I ask yer ?!!! Delivery into the box should have been prevented in the first instance (switched off at throw in…). The damage had already been done.

Alcaraz and Caldwell historically prepared to take one (booking) for the team, if required. Same required of Ramis (pace, positional play, 1/1).

Back to Alcaraz (nasty, gives as good as he gets, goal in him), Caldwell (body on the line approach, good organiser / communicator) and Figueroa
      for ME personally at Manure.

Ramis the new whipping boy every team as got one maybe introduce jordi to give Ramis a break from what i can gather against chelsea he was on the left of the three because of bozyjoe’s injury and Figgy played the LWB and if memory recalls the ball was lost by Franco on the edge of the Chelsea penelty area allowing for the break by hazzard to release the fruit cake who scored who by the way should of been tracked back by Figgy all round bad goal to concede ,the penelty in that game can’t argue with apart from the first ten minutes nowt else to worry about

Only saw Highlights of the Southampton and Forest games so cant really comment

        #92694
