OK, so we have (almost) all decided that Martinez must go, either sooner or some time not too much later. Assuming that Whelan will not bin him without having a replacement in mind/place, who will/should/would you like the new manager be, stating your reasons why?

Here are a few ground rules/assumptions for the thread.

    1. Martinez has gone, so no need for it to degenerate into slagging him off. Indeed, Admin should remove any posts that mention Martinez at all.

    2. For the purposes of this thread, Martinez will be hypothetically sacked or will resign immediately after the tediously dull 0-2 defeat to Wolves on 2nd October. Consider this date, and any potential candiates’ availability at that time, when making your proposal. You wouldn’t want to leave Jonesy in caretaker control for too long now, would you?

    3. Let’s try to be realistic. Bear in mind Whelan’s frugal nature when it comes to wages so best not to suggest that Mourinho will be upping his Milan sticks and getting the next Kiss Flights plane into Blackpool International. Likewise, I don’t really consider Sven to be a viable/preferable option.

Don’t phone, its just for fun. My favourite response gets a free pint – unless I decide I don’t like you and wouldn’t want to be seen dead with you in a pub or bar. And the question master’s decision is final.

I’ll start you off with a suggestion of the top of my head. Danny Wilson. Why? Cheap, Wiganer, straight-talker.

I’ll be back later to check your work. No copying. :)

Does Mourinho still have a holiday home in Milan then Griff? As he now lives and works in Madrid……

I’d like us to at least TRY for O’Neill, yet I accept it would be some coup to get him here.
Realistically, and people won’t like this, the likes of Gary Megson and Gareth Southgate would be more likely candidates. Danny Wilson? I actually like the guy, from what I know of him. I think Swindon will have a good season, as well. Curbishley? What EXACTLY has he done in football that is so great?

October you say? Personally, I think he’ll have gone by then. I also think that Darren Ferguson will have left PNE by then, as well. I could see Whelan offering him the job, definitely. :(

Not really answering your question, Griff, but have a look at this
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_En … e_managers

Shows how quickly managers turn around – Bob is about half-way up.

        What about Nigel Adkins? :D

At least the ‘Steady Nigel’ football team could be reformed!

Paul Hart. Local lad, and what a nice chap. (Would probably do no better, but he’s local, and not from Spain or anywhere else foreign.)

Kiss Flights? Parent company of Sport Options or Flight Options/Fight Options for anyone who has ever travelled away to watch England or any other team playing in Europe. A company run by ex-Arsenal hooligans. What an awful pity they have gone under, anyway, I digress….

Another option for a new managment structure would be Griff as Manager, Loudmouth as Assistant (for a differing view when required), James ‘Kirkland is shyte’ C as Goalkeeping Coach, Jrfatfan as Nutritionist, VAT69 as defensive coach/offensive coach/defensive-offensive coach, bickymon as player – owner liaison, Tyldesley as referee liaison, Micky C as club Psychologist, and Donnelly as (Dick) Head Of Communication.

sorry to be a lacking in humour,
but anyone who can organise our defence, cos unless thats sorted were doomed.

in i someways like Roberto’s footy philsophy but in reality
if your in the bottom half of the prem you’ll get nowhere with his style of play. the money aspect as long since taken over from the entertainment aspect

i don’t think its a coincidence that two teams in the bottom half that try to play good attrictive footy both got tonked

Peter Reid, affordable, top flight experience, no-one in Plymouth can understand him, some old songs could be re-surrected, no-one in our team will understand him, Bolton connection. Perfect fit.

Chris Coleman, thought he was harshly treated at Fulham and when Sanchez took over they went backwards. It could be argued that Roy Hodson got the Liverpool job on the back of Chris’s hard work. Had a disaster at Coventry (Similar story to PJ at Sheff Wed) but was forced into selling his best players plus false promises just like he was at Fulham.

He wouldn’t want a kings Ransom and should be in the Kaisers budget, likes his teams to play and roll their sleeves up.

He was my 2nd choice last summer before the appointment of the one we cannot name. ;)

Offer it to Martin O’Neill – if he says no, he says no but if you don’t ask, you don’t get

As much as I hate to say it, I think that Graeme Souness would be a decent short-term fix who could drag that team of of the mire/their own complacency. Not sure I’d want him long term mind

                  Dave Jones @ Cardiff

I can’t think of many others off the top of my head

I think O’Neill would like to come straight back into managing, where I don’t think Souness would accept the offer.

Hes honest and wouldnt take no pap from the pre-madonna players and Whelan. He was unlucky at Sheffield, thanks to us :P

But if truth be told, Id take anyone. So long as they get rid of zonal marking!
