Latics are being linked with Hibs striker Oli Shaw. This lad should fit in well as he is one of those unique strikers Latics tend to unearth from time to time as he is a striker that doesnt score goals. He could fit in well. A legend possibly to go with Scotland, Agahowa, Riera, Delort, Holt, Fortune and many more.
Not sure if he suffers from an injury problem or a problematic hamstring but if he does then come on he should do fine.23 July 2019 at 12:57 pm #179759In fairness he is only 21, & from what I’ve read has been mainly used as a substitute.
23 July 2019 at 7:52 pm #179769Be another “one for the future”.Won’t see light of day and spend 3 seasons on loan.Need a proven championship forward ,tough league to be gambling on a player who can’t get in the Hibs side. Where do we get these from ?. I agree with a poster who named someone like Nahki Wells at Burnley..granted wages again would be stumbling block but he can score and very mobile.
23 July 2019 at 8:26 pm #179771Not a chance of signing him there’s only a few week left in the transfer window so we wont have time to fanny about and teach a deal
23 July 2019 at 11:42 pm #179773Least of our problem a striker. We have Garner and at a push Windass who can’t be any worse than as a midfielder.
We need quality to replace James and Powell urgently now.24 July 2019 at 12:15 am #179776Least of our problem a striker. We have Garner and at a push Windass who can’t be any worse than as a midfielder.
We need quality to replace James and Powell urgently now.Pilkington through the middle is Powell’s replacement it seems
24 July 2019 at 12:25 am #179781When I heard someone say that theyd been told that Cook is going to rely on the young players doing the business, I thought ‘surely he won’t’.
But the longer things go on, I think thats the case. Big mistake in my mind, if we dont buy in a quality forward. Putting all the responsibility on Lang and Gelherdt…dodgy game that.
See what happens, but if we are struggling come October…well, each will have their own idea.

Well a left midfielder playing out of position could work. Who knows he won’t be the first make do player we’ve used. He is no Powell whatsoever but he is often out injured so that’s one thing he has going for him to fill Nick’s shoes.24 July 2019 at 1:32 pm #179786I think he is just classed as an attacking midfielder Donny meaning he can play anywhere. Either way, a front 4 of Pilkington, Massey, Jacobs and Garner will cause teams problems.
Regards the kids, I agree that we can’t rely on them 100%, they need some experience around them. Pretty sure last season though that most people on here (now those saying don’t play the kids) were screaming for Lang, Gelhardt and Jolley to be given a chance.
24 July 2019 at 3:16 pm #179787I’m sure an expert once said “You cant win anything with kids”
24 July 2019 at 3:42 pm #179788I’m sure an expert once said “You cant win anything with kids”No mate, it was Alan Hansen
26 July 2019 at 11:46 am #179809So what makes some people on here so convinced that the kids can’t do a job ?. Young lads hungry to prove themselves with high fitness levels and playing for their boyhood club ? And playing with experienced pros ?.
I’d sooner have that than pay say a 30+ year old 20k-30k who can’t be arsed.
26 July 2019 at 1:43 pm #179810I have no issues with playing the kids but not all at once. They need some experienced players in and around them. I would be quite happy to see Garner lead the line with Lang as his replacement, but if he is still a little green then this level of football would highlight that much quicker than lower divisions and could be a negative thing for his career. Of course it could work the other way and he embraces it and becomes a superstar. As I’ve said many times before I’m not sure if we as a club can afford to take that risk but I certainly wouldn’t be against it if we decided we could. Obviously as a rugby fan I’ve seen the evidence of what a solid youth setup can achieve.
It’s a good position to be in in terms of having a strong academy and it will only stand us in good stead going forward.

Spot on egg lad, we have released a lot of quality players and up to yet we haven’t strengthened the squad. Last season many of us wanted to see the kids but if the board don’t get their finger out we may have to depend on them and that is unfair on the boys at this stage in their careers.
26 July 2019 at 5:25 pm #179812The thing is, can we afford a quality forward ?. If you class Hugill as that (which I don’t) then is he worth 40k a week ?.
We know we’re were heading in this window, on the last day panic sign and 6-7 players with most never seeing the light of day.
Sometimes you never know if a player can perform at this level well, not till their thrown in the deep end and given some minutes on the pitch. What kills me is, how some people are totally convinced the Young’s aren’t ready ?.
Remember young lads like learn quick, fook me you talk as though Garner is gonna give us 20 goals this season. I’ve seen him at this level I haven’t seen any of the young lads.
Every club seek the same thing, a forward who’s going to give them 15-20 goals a season, this comes with a hefty price tag something we can’t afford.
I’d sooner play Lang than some average over the hill overhyped money grabbing tosser who doesn’t give a sh1t player.
I hope we don’t get a forward then Cooks hand will be forced. -
