What kills me is, how some people are totally convinced the Young’s aren’t ready ?.

By “some people” do you mean fans on social media, or the manager, his assistants, the youth coaches and everyone else involved in the coaching/training/player monitoring side of the club?

As I’ve said, I would love us to promote the youth but at the same time I don’t want it to blow up in our faces as it usually does. United in 1995 was a freak occurrence hence why it is still talked about. Usually the majority of young squads with a group of kids gets its arse handed to it.

Bringing in 1 or 2 of them this season will be fantastic, but bringing in all 5/6 of the ones on the cusp of the first team could be suicidal.

I agree with egg, would love to see Joffy, Lang and Weir given a chance this season but the chance being 15 to 20 minutes in 10-15 games. Those games would be ones that are in the bag or ones that we are 2-3 down. That’s the way they should be schooled and hopefully next season or the season after they might step in and hold a place down. Throwing them in could mean disaster for the team and confidence smashing for the lads. Out of the ones I’ve seen, the boy weir looks the most likely to make an impact, seen him in a few friendlies and he’s not looked out of place.

The transfer market is clearly showing we cannot compete wages wise with some other clubs or we’d have at least 2 new players here already.
I never said 5-6 young uns so fook knows we’re you got that figure from. I don’t want that scenario like the other season were we went out like fookin Dale Winton Supermarket Sweep and filling shirts numbers for the sake of it. For me we have a young lad in Lang who should at least make the bench every week. I’d sooner watch him than some old timer on 20k seeing out his days with not a ounce of passion in him.
The IEC made it clear when they arrived their not here checkbook fund us, they want at some point to concentrate on bringing players through.
Are they ready ?, in some cases probably not but been out muscled in the transfer market will more than likely force our hand.
Lowe 17 goals for Pompey League 1 but you forget that Lang got 13 in a poorer side. He’s 21 in a few weeks so I think we should stop calling him a kid or a young lad. At that age he’s prime and ready to learn.
Get him in I say, Jesus he surely he got to be better than Clarke was bar the last 4-5 games.

          Non-sequiturs there, old chap.
We know we can’t compete against SOME others wages wise – nor would we wish to; that’s why Bolton are in the mess they are in. We are soundly financially managed and that includes not throwing money around in the vague hope that will ensure wins on the field. It doesn’t.
The second point you make is not connected with that. Sales hot up all around near the end of the window. Let’s see then who we have brought in. Clubs, players and agents are waiting to see what offers turn up.
Not forgetting that loans are a good way forward for us, and we now have a good rapport I think with Everton and Chelsea.

I agree with a lot of that, although not too sure about the Bolton thing. Any debts from the Premier League days of signing the likes of Okocha, Djorkaeff, Anelka etc were apparently settled by Eddie Davies a long while ago. I do think it was down to bad management though, their problems. For instance, they paid a youth coach I know of 2k a week. Not even a top youth coach. And they had ideas above their status, opened things like the International School, which closed after a year, etc. Plus the overall footprint of their stadium is heavy on utilities usage…their concourses are the same size as the MEN arena ones.

Regarding Latics, whilst I would have liked Hugill and/or Lowe to come in, I dont really want us to pay either 20k a week. If I were manager, Id offer them some decent performance bonuses, such as 150k bonus if they hit 20 goals or more, and things like that. If they arent keen on that, I’d take it as being a bit unconfident of their own ability! Or would that be harsh?

Paul Cook has to balance things and find the happy medium. Affordable quality, you might say. I do expect a new face this week, possibly two. I think we will bring Williams in from Everton, and maybe another signing who none of us expect.

Would you be happy if we were to bring in Otzumer and Magennis from Bolton on frees? I think both could be good squad editions, if not regular starters.

In many ways it will be a relief to start the season next weekend and see how we fair against what should be a decent Cardiff side.
