Well we must be doing something right because we are 3rd from bottom ! :P
12 December 2012 at 4:06 pm #97946Yes, he can put a good ball in every now and again but Ryan Taylor could take a good free kick. Doesn’t mean they should be in the side “just in case”
Oh, I don’t know… a certain David Beckham made a career out of it.[/quote]
David Beckham could also shoot, cross, pass to practically any part of the pitch from anywhere else, tackle and take a good corner.
Jean Bousejour can’t can he? He falls apart in the box, gives the ball away cheaply and can’t defend. Hopefully with 3 fit centre backs we’ll push Figs forward.
12 December 2012 at 4:37 pm #97947Many on here were giving JB along with Sean Maloney plaudits for turning around our season not 11 months ago as we move with time the very same people are stabbing them in the back supporters eh
Cue the old I pay my money i can say what i want ,there on thousands of pounds a week etc etc etc
12 December 2012 at 4:59 pm #97948So because he helped turn our season around last season we should let him off for his piss poor displays this season? If it was once or twice then maybe I would agree but personally on this seasons displays I have no idea how he is in the side.

I think Maloney was more pivotal in our turnaround than JB and I haven’t heard anyone ‘Stabbing Maloney in the back’.
JB may have played a part in our turnaround, and rightly so he recieved praise for it. Now he is playing awful and providing nothing to the team, so is it wrong to slate him now JUST because he had some good games last season??Why should someone recieve praise for the things they do well, then recieve NO criticism when they do wrong?

Whats the alternative?
Drop him for Jones who cant beat a man or cross a ball?
Lets be honest if he could beat a man as people think he should and cross a ball we would have a left sided Valencia playing for us or more likely not playing for us.

Hello Capt Spaulding.
The alternative is to bring someone else in, either to replace him or at least to give him some competition (kick up the backside) to get him playing to the level we saw at the back end of last season. :)

Hello Chicken Sandwich :)
I think replacing him with a new signing is easier said than done.
I agree his performances have not been of the highest standard this season but he has still put in some good crosses.
Although a good point previously mentioned by ThirtyFive is that certain teams seem alot wiser to him this season and I think the crossing and positional play of our wing backs are being sussed more this season than last.
Plus coming back from injury at the start of the season meant a slow start for him.
Personally I think overall he will come good over the course of his career at Wigan Athletic but I dont expect him to be our only creative outlet.
I think others need to pick up the baton once in a while.

It’s actually a Chicken McSandwich Spaulding :)
Fair point, when he does actually manage to cross they are a lot more accurate than the likes of Stams crosses etc.. But as stated earlier having the ability to cross but being poor in every other sense doesn’t mean he deserves to be in the team.
Let’s be honest with regards to 2 men marking him.. He’s hardly the first person you would think of that needs 2 men marking him, and even if that was the case, it happens to a lot of danger players (Probably such as Bale, Ronaldo etc for example) and they don’t instantly start to play awful and become the worst player on the pitch (Before anyone says, I know JB isn’t at the same level as them but should still, as a professional footballer, be able to overcome the problem and play under any circumstance).
I also believe that he may come good again for us, but not once has JB been our ‘only creative outlet’.
13 December 2012 at 12:49 am #97966He is usually completely unmarked out wide yet many of our players when given the option to pass to him choose a different option ! Why do you think this is ? Maybe they don’t fancy receiving it straight back off him !!
13 December 2012 at 1:17 am #97968You have to remember also, that last year we had a greater threat on the right with Moses playing. Now he is our main ball provider from the wing (Beausejour), pressure is greater on him and teams know this is our main avenue of attacking play.
Would be interesting to see possession stats on the left side. Think Stam has been more effective than Boyce was in the right channel but still not the threat as was Victor. I think Beasejour put enough quality balls in against Qpr for us to win the match.
13 December 2012 at 1:53 am #97969Could anybody tell me how many assists he has had whilst at the club please ?
13 December 2012 at 3:02 am #97970Beausejour 8 in last 30 games. Valencia in his last season with us 4 in 31. Moses 1 all of last season. Not bad for an overweight waste of space who can’t beat a man eh? ;)

Personally with a fit back 3 I would play Figs there as we did against Chelsea. With an injury in the back 3 (after the rise of Lopez in the last few games that would prob be 2) I would move Stam across to the left. He played there plenty of times in Holland I believe and whilst his crosses may not be as accurate as Beausejour’s I would say his all round game is better.
