4-3-3 that’s sort of two strikers and a wide man. Whatever are we going to stop splitting hairs.
Some of us prefer to watch two out and out strikers playing up front and some don’t. Its all a matter of what you like and what you dont.Barlow and Haworth were two strikers.
      Ellington and Roberts two strikers.
I just find football much duller since the day we were told Jason Scotland on his Todd up top on his own and players walking around with the ball passing sideways was the way Wigan play from now on. It hasn’t varied much since that day just even duller as the side gets weaker and players of a less ability are being asked too much of them.

Yes possibly but Barlow was a striker and Sir Andrew was a winger.

You even take your user name from one of the strikers. Who the hell are you love to call other people’s comments crap. If you don’t agree with it, it’s crap. Barlow was an out and out striker. A good one with pace. Haworth was an out and out striker, a traditional striker. Sir Andy was a wide man, what else?
What formation was McCulloch,Roberts, Ellington, Teale. Two up top and two wide men and the most exciting football ever played in our history.
Like I said if you prefer the football of the last eight years then that is your preference I don’t mind, it’s your opinion and I wouldn’t call your opinion crap.
I suppose who you will not be voting for in the election will be talking crap rather than having a different opinion than yourself.

Barlow may be an out and out striker but he played as part of a front THREE which is 2 men wide of ONE striker. I’m not even sure how 2 strikers and 1 wide man would look.

Lee McCulloch was a striker at Motherwell and we moved him wide. Doesnt make your 442 a 433 otherwise WTF was the formation when Kilbane (a winger) was at LB or McCann (a centre mid)

They pretty much had free reign with Haworth as the target man. That was our best football for me and I’d have liked to have seen Mathias take it on in 99/00. Didn’t turn out too bad in the end.

Our problem with 1 up top is that the wide players and centre mids don’t help the striker enough and it leaves him like a fish out of water.

Would Bogle make a good Lee McCulloch mark 2? Shove him wide and use his strength and pace there to free space up for Grigg and offer an outlet at the back post.

If you’re quoting pace, he definitely won’t be McCulloch mark 2!

For all of Lee’s attributes, pace was not one of them!

Nah. Every side that wins plays 442. Its the future.

20 odd games lost by the odd goal

20 games without scoring a goal

              Oh and relegated

One up top at its finest

We played 2 up top in some of those. The problem was we were awful going forward regardless of how many we had up top.

I totally agree with you egg and we have done this subject to death. What I find ridiculous is those on here who constantly berate twin strikers when we have just witnessed the worst football any of has ever seen. All systems work and you lot who think that 4-4-2 is history need to wobble your head. We were so shite because we didn’t have the players who could fathom out how to play yet tried incessantly instead of changing to a more suitable style. Bad managers equals bad tactics. It doesn’t matter how you line up if you cant play it change it.
