I know what you are saying, but if I was the owner of Eastleigh FC I would sooner get the draw against Accrington Stanley at home, beat um on pens and get in that hat, rather than get the draw and go to Stanley and potentially get stuffed in front of 2,500 fans.
I just think that scrapping the replay will not bother the lower teams too much, or certainly not to the point of devaluing the FA Cup, as what is being suggested on this thread.
If anyone on here has loads of time on their hands, it would be interesting to see say for the last 2 or 3 seasons, what effect having no replays would have had on the various non league clubs who reached the 3rd Round and managed a draw in their first match. Do the same for league two and one sides who managed to reach the 4th and 5th Round and got a draw in their match.
You would have to make some sensible assumptions, such as the smaller clubs would only have won say 50% of the penalty shoot outs and say just 10% of the replays with the bigger clubs.
On second thoughts don’t bother, my head is mashed up just thinking about doing that. :silly:
