Thought this earlier, but just seen it again and confirmed my earlier suspicion. He did not want to send off Zamora and looked well pissed off with his linesman.
And another thing, when Maloney scored that wall was about six yards away. And the one just before it was the same. Dowd marched them back ten and let them stay two yards short of where he’d told them to stand, then they crept up another yard or two.
Hated him since that first season when he blatantly favoured Arsenal at Highbury.
I thought the exact same thing about the 2 free kicks but I think you’re way off the mark for the sending off.
If he was annoyed about anything with the sending off it’ll be his own positioning & therefore view of the incident. If you watch the replay it looks like he hasn’t really got his eyes fully on play & only catches any veiw of it out of the corner of his eye. That’s why he’s had to consult his assistant & by doing so he’s in effect admitting to whoever assesses the game that he didn’t see it & bearing in mind that that’s exactly where teh ball was & he had an unimpeded view then he should have seen it & it’ll possibly be a black mark against his mark

Agreed.
Plus, do referees ever really WANT to send a player off?
Never seen a ref whip his red card out with a beaming smile on his face.
He did try his best to dish out yellow cards to Wigan players for perfectly good challenges, I felt he’d have been happy to even things up given the chance, I am biased though for the same reason as northernprimate I hate Dowd .
he asks the linesman if it was a sending off..if you watch the replay, when he goes over to the linesman he covers his mouth with his hand, and asks the linesman a question..the linesman replies “red card”…dowd then asks another question, which i presume is “are you sure?”…because the linesman’s reply is “a hundred percent,..a red card”
i think it shows courage to ask for help in getting decisions correct, he obviously didnt see the incident, so asks someone who did.
Referee Anthony Taylor sent off Carlton Cole and Darron Gibson for high kicking in the same game earlier in the season. Both cards were overturned on appeal.
Then came Nani’s dismissal against Real Madrid, which was upheld.
After McManaman’s controversial tackle on Haidara, Dowd was under pressure to get this decision right, which he did.
I can’t help feeling the length of time Gomez was down helped the ref/linesman make the decision. Surely if either had seen it, the card would have come out sooner? Something tells me it came via the walkie talkies from someone upstairs.
Correct decision however it was done, even Prune face Redknapp agreed.

People are only pissed at dowd cos we were rubbish. He did fine. Can’t blame the ref for us giving the most pedestrian, uninspired performance of the season. To perform like that once is human, twice is questionable, and three times is taking the piss. Don’t hang them now, we have to push on.
(However if the next two games are as per the above, get stuck in!)
