    Totally agree with you, Jrfatfan.

Especially regarding Hendry Thomas. What has happened to him? He’s showing exactly why he is rated so high. He’ll never be a goalscoring midfielder, but as a stopper, in the kind of ‘Javier Mascherano’ type role, he really is looking good isn’ he?

I think that the missing elements to our game are slowly being rectified. And what about the pace in our team? Especially Charles and Victor. But one or two others are not slow, either.

It does often take players time to get used to the premiership, Thomas is one of them.

Since Bobby’s arrival I’ve always argued that I don’t car what formation he plays as long as he picks the correct one for the personnel he has available & doesn’t stick rigidly to one, or try & stick square pegs in round holes

i can understand what jrfatfan is saying but I think he misses out another flaw in the current system – Of the 3 centre forwards we have I don’t think any of them are suited to playing the lone forward role meaning we have no-one to hold the ball up whilst the midfield gets forward

So of the 5 things identified to make the 4-5-1 (4-3-3) system of Bobby’s be a success we have 1 in place, 1 (luck) that you make yourself (to get your fair share of scrappy goals you need enough men in the box in the first place) & 3 either missing or as works in progress

How long is long enough to give him before you draw a line & say enough is enough, you’ve had enough time? For example he’s had 18 months to get a centre forward in who can play that lone striker role in a way that suits his system & none of the blokes he’s brought in look like they are the type of plyer he needs & he’s spent over £12mill on them. How much more time & money does he get given to get that right??

I’m not saying sack him by any means but its just that I hear all the time that we need to give him time to get his players in & get the players used to his system & ways of doing things & I’m asking just how much time is that? bearing in mind that he’s had 18 months already & I acknowledge that I can see how things have improved

If you notice when latics play well we are in a proper 4-3-3 formation, with the wing men cutting in and supporting the striker, when it goes bad the wingers stay out wide, providing no support to the lone centre forward.

The last 2 games we have seen effort put in by the Zog and Moses when he came on and you can see the formation works a lot better.

I think if we play a frontline of

      Rodallega
      N,Zogbia Cleverley Moses

We will definately have goals in us. I think, all 3 behind Rodallega are good at getting forward and will score goals. Cleverley as his name suggests has a clever footballing brain, and before he joined us he had been dubbed a new paul scholes. Sometimes we may need the second striker with abit of height which Hugo lacks, but when he plays down the middle he gets amongst the strikers and puts in a real effort, which I must say he sometimes lacked out wide on the left. All the attackers have bags of talent and I think after a few games playing together we will start to see a few more goals being scored.
Quick special mention for Moses at the weekend, hes not as tricky a player as N,Zogbia but he is improving. His final ball I think is slightly better than N’Zogbia’s and he looks as though he just loves getting on the pitch and giving his all for our club.

Don’t be mistaken we shouldn’t be as low as we are at the moment, take away the Blackpool and Chelsea games and our defence has looked strong aswell.

Your right the formation of 4-2-3-1 seems to be working better, pity Cleverly will be leaving in January, if the Zog goes as well we will be back to square 1.

Not a fan of this formation but if Bobby is insisting on playing it then N’Zogbia and Moses need to play together from the start as then we have genuine pace and players who can run at players on both wings. Also I dont think there is room for both Gomez and Cleverly to play in the same team.

Agree with that, and Cleverley must play rather than Gomez. Just has that extra bit of pace and craft, for me.

Agree with that Griff, bit more fight in Cleverley aswell, looks really annoyed with himself when he loses possession.

Totally off topic but what would you say is our best backline with a fully fit squad.

          Stam/Boyce Gohouri Alcaraz Figeuroa

Unsure on the right hand side of our defence. Stam offers more going forward but Boyce I think is the better defender. Probably say Stam, just because our two deep lying defensive mifdielders do cover the gap left at the back from Stam.

Would like to see both Boyce and Stam in the same team with one of them at left back. Thought Gohouri had a good game there at the weekend though
