18 October 2012 at 2:17 pm #95188I must be being a bit thick here. I can see that SDW’s comment was maybe tongue-in-cheek but I thought he was saying that the report in the link was a joke. if so, I’m missing it completely.
Am I having a pink* moment?
* blonde moment for baldies ;)
I wondered what you were talking about when you mentioned skimming through it !
18 October 2012 at 3:13 pm #95190Yes Phil, I agree that jokes don’t have to be analysed, but it’s something that gets right on my t1ts in Wigan when people presume Eastern Europeans come to the UK to sponge, when in actual fact that’s usually the last thing they intend doing.
It’s the same as presuming everyone who is European and doesn’t speak English is Polish, people who wear turbans are Muslim, and anyone with anything other than white skin is a P@ki. Even some of mates are guilty of this, and it just goes to show how insular people in Wigan are at times.
So, yes of course I realised SDW’s comment was supposed to be a joke, but it would only be funny if you were a thicko who presumed Polish people come here to sponge etc.
18 October 2012 at 10:53 pm #95204Where you are on the social ladder can dictate how you feel about immigrants, if you happen to be an employer you get a cheap dedicated workforce that will work 7 days a week, wont be complaining about the working conditions.
If you happen to be a unskilled low paid factory worker where there are a large number of immigrants working then your pay will be kept low.

Like I said Jonny there is a heaped helping of stigma attached to them. If the roof incident had say happened when we had the influx of Jamaicans I am pretty sure they would have been the brunt of the joke !( Had we been playing them of course ! ) I like jokes and appreciate the way in that they are formed and so putting the Polish apart I thought it was quite funny whilst knowing it had no real substance fact wise. At the end of the day the poles have Margaret Thatcher to thank for the onset of the downfall of the working class unions ! Can you imagine them getting many jobs back then ! On the flip side, I have several Polish customers and they are all good payers and very clean and tidy house wise ! :)

Correct, an they’ll work for low pay, because they then get family allowance and child tax and working tax paid to their spouse back in Poland, so they can have a wife and six kids at home, work 40 hours here for 200 quid, and get a grand or more a month sent back to the family.
It’s bleeding our already flatlined economy dry, and it’s ridiculous in my opinion. British taxpayers are supporting families that don’t even live in this country, it’s no wonder we’re in the shit. And before anyone mentions our own layabouts and spongers, that is another problem entirely and doesn’t need compounding by keeping the polish governments benefits bill down.
19 October 2012 at 1:33 am #95215we are totally in the shyte correct through a number of problems that begin at the very top with Billionaires shoving there money into off shore accounts, companies like Starbucks paying frig all tax on a turnover of millions to name a few
19 October 2012 at 1:58 am #95216Well the government is about as much use as a bucket of <unacceptable language moderated – yellow card> in a gay bar, but the alternative is much the same, they want about 100% of whatever you earn, and they’ll get it one way or the other, whilst a select few live in ridiculous luxury, illuminati my friend, and we are but sheep.
19 October 2012 at 2:08 am #95217This thread originally started football-related asking about the facilities at a stadium. That discussion seems to have come to an end and is now drifting off-topic. Further discussion on this thread locked.
