I can’t deny that yesterday’s performance was worse than dreadful, and I certainly don’t agree with the bulk of Martinez’s tactics, but let’s put things into perspective eh?
2 years ago at this stage of the season, under Bruce, we were 18th with 8 points. And ended up “pushing for Europe” ;)
1 year ago at this stage we were 12th with 13 points and out of the Carling Cup.
So currently, on paper and in comparison to the last 2 years we are doing OK. Granted we don’t have the benefit of 3 clubs defo worse than us, but we have only lost 1 in 9 or 10 and we’ve had the benefit of a cup run to give more players a run out and try some different things.
At the start of the season my view was that we needed to do 3 things to improve, and if you look at games post Chelsea we are getting there:
1. Shore up the defence – started to happen until the Caldwell’s joined the starting line up recently
2. Get results from the teams around us – bar Fulham we have, though the last 2 draws should have been wins
3. Get back to back wins – not yet, but at least we’ve had a string of back to back results
My prediction was that by Fulham we’d have 10 points (beating Blackpool, losing to Spurs, losing to Brum, drawing with Fulham).
I also think that of the last 4 games, 1 win, 2 close draws and 1 loss is not bad for us. If we can get 4-5 points from the next 3 then that won’t be too shabby either.
Whats all this we have only lost 1 in 10 rubbish !! The league is what is important here and in that we have lost 4 out of 10 and only won 2 ! Carry on at that rate and we will end up with 38pts and go down ! :(
Have a quick look at how many teams go down on 38 points :ugeek:
I cant be bothered trawling back through the archives ! All I know is a 38pt season is a s h i t one especially when you have forked out for a season ticket AGAIN !! So far the goals FOR and goals AGAINST is a bad enough statistic !
Phil, seriously… Who do you think you are watching, week in, week out?
We are not Real Madrid. What are your expectations?
My expectations are that because of the length of time we have been in the Prem we should be establishing ourselves as mid table side and not in the mire every season. I also expect to see more attacking football at home and not the usual bereft of any ideas up front dross I witness ! Every man and his dog seems to know Bob’s short comings but for some strange reason he remains obstinate ? I can name 3 regular starters who are stealing a living !!

no body thinks that griff – we are wigan athletic who ever since we have been in the premiership have battled, shown grit and determination and played some really entertaining stuff at times – one thing that we always saw under jewell – hutchins and bruce was we very rarely gave up.
MARTINEZ IS RIPPING THE HEART OUT OF THIS CLUB
the football on offer is passionless, slow, boring,we have the lowest goals scored, and second highest conceeded columns in the league, and this is turning TRUE fans away from even wanting to go and watch games other than misguided loyalty every week.
no griff we are not real madrid – but we are also not some badly coached sunday league pub team who are unfit and dont care if they win or not and that sir is what this clown at the helm has turned us into .

Well you should as the stats say your wrong with this comment, there has been 3 teams that have gone down on 38+ points in nearly 20 years (out of 54 that have gone down).
he got it spot on though with this snippet from that article The Mexico international was in sizzling form on Saturday as the west London side cruised past a pathetic Wigan to end a run of six games without a win
