Have a quick look at how many teams go down on 38 points :ugeek:

I cant be bothered trawling back through the archives ! All I know is a 38pt season is a s h i t one especially when you have forked out for a season ticket AGAIN !! So far the goals FOR and goals AGAINST is a bad enough statistic !
Carry on at that rate and we will end up with 38pts and go down !

Well you should as the stats say your wrong with this comment, there has been 3 teams that have gone down on 38+ points in nearly 20 years (out of 54 that have gone down).
for christs sake the point he is making is the clown martinez and his style of play and set up is going to send us down – i think he is being very optamistic in thinkig he can get us anywhere near 38 points we are by far and away the worst side in the premier league this season and that is down to one man.

I don’t think Figueroa is totally to blame, although he is certainly one of the weaker links at the momant, he has showed nowhere near the form he did when he first arrived. :D

This is the same comments that were made a month or two ago, we dont have width that can defend. The wingers go awol, Rodders and Nzog can be a pain when it comes to tracking back. Figgy cant seem to do right from wrong, Stam seems to be chasing shadows at times. What happend to Boyce?

My expectations are that because of the length of time we have been in the Prem we should be establishing ourselves as mid table side and not in the mire every season.

Why? No matter how long we have been in the Premiership we are still little Wigan and have next to no resources (or the will to spend more) compared to everyone else to build a stronger squad and team. Every year will be a fight for survival for us.

we are wigan athletic who ever since we have been in the premiership have battled, shown grit and determination and played some really entertaining stuff at times – one thing that we always saw under jewell – hutchins and bruce was we very rarely gave up.

Rubbish. Apart from about 12 weeks under Jewell and 12 weeks under Bruce we’ve been a relegation waiting to happen and, as we have all pointed out, probably the only reason it hasn’t happened yet is that there have always been 3 worse teams in the league. The style of play we have today is just a different kind of rubbish.

MARTINEZ IS RIPPING THE HEART OUT OF THIS CLUB

I don’t bother opining much on Martinez now, as frankly I’m sick and tired of it all. But what I will say is that my dad said a few weeks ago “We’re going to have to turn some of these games we are drawing into wins, or else we’re going to have big problems”.

He’s bang on. We draw 2 or 3 home games, then we lose a couple away. We are so hot and cold as a team, nobody knows if we are good or bad. I do actually think that we currently look the worst team in the Premiership. I’m in a position where I feel that I neither want Martinez in, or out. Ok, we fire him. Who do we replace him with? Martin O’Neill would be my only choice, but it would be costly. We’d have to give him a chunk of cash to spend in January. (We might have to anyway) But then again, if we keep Martinez and carry on as we are, it will cost us as well. Probably more.

Personally, I like the idea of passing football. I just don’t like the way we play it. But then again, I don’t believe a team should play a ‘set way’.You should play to your strengths and your opponents weaknesses. All we do is pass across the field. It’s hardly bold football, and no wonder people have walked away and aren’t going to matches. I’m bored of it myself.

My gut instinct, if a change is to be made, is we should get rid before Christmas. Get M.O.N. in as soon as possible. I think he’s the only man for the job. Let him bring some experienced heads in with him. (Didn’t he have Roy Aitken as in number 2 at Villa?)
Our current management was appointed romantically, rather than sensibly. Yet it feels as if we have monkey’s manning the ship. Learning the job as they go. We have some good players, for sure, but they are being used in a terrible system. It IS all too deliberate, too ‘tippy tappy’.

Still polishing away at that turd, Roberto. Isn’t he?

I’ve not been away this season yet.Planning on going to United. Yes, it’s £42 a ticket. Yes, Rooney will probably make his big comeback and bag 4 goals. But I’ve a gut feeling we won’t be going to Old Trafford for a while, so….

Yes we may have been relegation fodder for most of our premier league tenure, there are a number of reasons for that, but we always battled through the adversity,

Can you honestly see this squad having the bottle to give a ‘WORLD CLASS’ backs to the wall performance like they did at sheff utd to save our premier league status.
No matter how bad we have been in previous campaigns it pales into the shadows compared to the dreary crap served up week in week out now.

Drama queen I may be – but I am spot on,
Not once in all the years I have supported this club, including the nearly going out of existence days, have I heard as much division among fans, people are sick of the crap Martinez serves up and it is wearing thinner with every passing game, even the winning days that are also become more and more remote are not the joyous occasions they should be any more, they are just the same mundane dross with perhaps a touch of luck or a bit rare individual genius from one player – there is no team work within the current setup and only one person can answer as to why that is so.

I cant believe two grown spend all afternoon banging each others bollocks. We’re all frustrated, get behind the team. See you at Ewood on saturday.. when I’m gonna introduce you to each other> oh.. and get some work done or something. :D

I cant believe two grown spend all afternoon banging each others two veg. We’re all frustrated, get behind the team. See you at Ewood on saturday.. when I’m gonna introduce you to each other> oh.. and get some work done or something. :D

And on the subject of being introduced. I had a heated exchange of views* with 3 blokes behind me about Bobby and the team. During this debate, one of them made some sarky comment suggesting I “write a book about what I know about football if I’m that clever” so he obviously knew who I was (otherwise how would be know I have written a book?) but didn’t see fit to make himself known to me. He’s probably lurking on here now.

*I was very drunk and overly abusive at the start of the debate (for which I later apologised) but in the end we had a reasoned debate. This was possibly because I had conceded that I was baffled by the decision to take off Di Santo and bring Gomez on playing out wide, a pointless exercise at the best of times. See, I do criticise Martinez when I see fit whereas the “other” side have tunnel vision. For example, the catalyst for my rant at them was their reaction to the first goal, which was “Get off Martinez, you’re useless” as if he personally was the right back that let their man cross unchallenged or the centre-back who sat picking his arris while Dempsey scored.

Now, I have never said that Martinez is the best coach/manager we could have and I have longed said that I think part of the reason players don’t always perform is because they have no respect for him. That in itself is a problem, of course, but he is always going to struggle if he doesn’t know whether his players are going to bother or not. Stam, Figueroa and Rodallega – again – were a waste of space and who would have ever thought that Cleverley would have been as bad as he was on Saturday after his previous couple of cameos?

At the risk of repeating myself, those that think that simply playing 442 with these players is the answer are in cloud cuckoo land. Similarly – and I think Dave talked a lot of sense in his earlier post on another thread – those who think that a) Martin O’Neill or such like would come to Wigan and b) would be given the kind of money needed to stop us being involved in a relegation scrap every year are also smoking something strange.

Rant over. Well, probably not. I have another presentation to give and then I’ll be back. Great job this, Bolshy :)

Ah yeah, I agree with what you say about O’Neill.

But maybe he’s ready to get back into the Premeirship now, yet where can you see his chance of a job coming from? Nobody’s manager really looks like going at the moment. Therefore, I feel if we made the right approach, we could actually tempt him.

I have a feeling that unless they pick up a lot, Bruce may do well to last the season at Sunderland. Surely they’d go for O’Neill?

But for the minute, he’s available.
