Well I have to say the Villa game was pretty impressive. And who cares how well the opposition play as long as we win eh? If we play against a team that plays awful every week then we’ll win the league (maybe)
Yes I do agree that 4-5-1 doesn’t work, We need another striker without doubt. I don’t rate Scotland or King, and think we should have gone for Nugent, McDonald or Benjani.

I went to Everton……and I don’t think I’ll be going to many more away games this season, in all honesty.
For one, I work Sat nights, and for two, as a father with 2 small kids, I can’t justify the expense, or time spent away, when we are playing crap.
I’m sorry, but from what I’ve seen the quality of football being dished up so far under Martinez (Villa game apart) is garbage
Yes Latics always lose to the “big 4” but its the manner of the defeats to the 2 we’ve played from there which is most worrying. Bar the odd spanking here & there we’ve usually put up a decent fight against the bigger sides & you can see the graft being put in by the players.
After the 1st goal was conceded against United the side fell to pieces & all bar one of the goals were really poor ones to concede. The goals against Arsenal were all poor ones – a defender outjumping 3 defenders, no-one picking up the run of a centre half in open play from his own half to the edge of our penalty area & the other 2 were rank marking
The way the players seem to “give up” at present is worryingConsidering we seem to have 25 midfielders on our books with another one on the way the midfield is shocking & teams seem to be able to stroll through them at will. The fact Arsenal should have had double their 4-0 win should set alarm bells ringing. Wolves could have had a hatful. So could West Ham
We’ve had one of the best defences in the top flight for the last 2 seasons & in little over a month its turned into one of the worst
In the 7 games under Martinez we’ve seen one decent performance.
There were Latcis fans who said they would rather see us get relegated trying to play good football under Bobby than be successful under Bruce with his style of play. I think they may get their wishI am totally not arsed about any of the results against the “top 4”.
What used to frustrate me was when our lot would play their hearts out against the top 4 then still get beaten, and then seem to not put the graft in when we played one of the less high profile teams…
Like someone said the other day I would play the reserves and the kids in all 8 matches against the top four.
Its the games against Portsmouths, Hulls and Burnleys etc etc I want to see our lot play their hearts out in.
The only thing the manager is guilty of so far is naevity. He is trying to go toe to toe with teams with a lot more technical ability. We are getting spanked but he and the players will be learning from his mistakes.
When we played West Ham and Everton there were better displays because they are teams on our level. Against Villa who are probably a higher level we saw the signs of what could happen if it all goes to plan, against Wolves we saw some shortcomings.
This season was always going to be a major upheaval with a new manager and a new style of play. It was never going to be pretty football and getting close to beating one of the top 4 in this very early part of the season.
I can understand people getting upset about us shipping goals but we will get enough points to stay up so that shouldn’t matter.
As far as being embarrassed. I’ve never been embarrassed to support Wigan Athletic. Sometimes results are unexpected and scorelines are bigger than you think but that’s what makes football so exciting.
I know the points I’m making will fall on fallow ground as far as the Whelan-haters and whingers are concerned but they need to be made.
I pay my money I have every right to be positive about my team. I have every right to support them if they are going through a bad patch in a game. I have every right to get behind them and tell people who are slagging them off to get a life. It’s called banter.
This season was always going to be a work in progress and I for one will be supporting Bobby and the team through the bad times as well as the good ones which I am sure are on the horizon.
I stress again (and again and again) we are not Real Madrid.

I can understand where your’e coming from yick but what is the point of being in the premier league if we only want to compete seriousley against the likes of Burnley and Stoke.

To call it stoney ground would mean these people would never see any brightness in their lives.

I also see where you are coming from, but for me the top 4 are not Premier League teams..they, with the assistance of Sky money have out grown this league.
The sooner they all fark off to some Super league the better.
At the start of the football season there was a time when virtually any team had a chance of winning the top league…..not any more.

Anyway, I didn’t put you down, I simply asked a fair question. Or it would have been had I not missed the word “prob”.
And to clear it up – in my opinion, Villa weren’t that bad but they were not allowed to settle for one minute by a Wigan team that passed like demons when they had the ball.
I am at a bit of a loss to explain why we haven’t done it since.
