Prediction Northampton to finish in the play offs, I thought they did well especially with their boss only being in charge for 4 games.

I have to admit that from my angle in the Springfield Stand I didn’t think it had crossed the line and the fact that it took so many attempts to get an angle on TV that showed it actually did means that it’s understandable why the officials didn’t give it. Having said that, it would have been difficult for them to get it right as they got almost everything wrong during the rest of the game.

I know that there is a ref that posts on here sometimes and I’d love to hear his opinions on the officials. It started right from kick off when he asked Jacobs 3 times to make sure his big toenail wasn’t over the half way line before he deemed it ok to start the game. I honestly believe that the performance of the officials last night was as bad as any I’ve seen.

Unfortunately (in terms of Latics watching) I now live 230 miles away from Tyldesley & so don’t get to see many Latics games these days.
I have seen the highlights though on Sky’s website & I have to say that, for the late Morsy effort that wasn’t awarded, I think that the officials got it spot on.

What is deceptive is that because the ball is off the ground, the camera angle, the 2D effect the telly gives & the grass under the ball can make it appear that the ball is over the line on a couple of occasions after it hit the post.
Whilst I had too much time on my hands at lunch today, i slowed the footage down frame by frame – the ball hits the post, bounces up & gives an initial impression that it might be over the line.
However it then bounces & when it hits the ground it is almost as perfectly on the goal line as it could be – not even a hint that its over. A third of the ball is in play, a third on the line & a third over it.
It then bounces up again & by the time it starts to drop & the defender clears it you have the impression (same as above) that it might be over the line but again the camera angle & the grass under the ball create a false impression of depth behind the line.
At the very least I don’t think that you can say that the TV footage provides absolute proof that every single part of that ball was over the line – if even a millimetre was on the line then its no goal

      Just my opinion though
Can’t comment on anything else that went on with the officials other than the minute & 10 seconds that Sky have shown

Just watched the “goal” again on the Sky App thingy.

Took a few goes, but managed to stop the picture at the key moment. Ball 100% over the line from the camera angle.

I actually think this is a good omen for our season that we get the unlucky decision when it didnt affect the winning result. Last season that would have happened at 1-1 in a must win game or at 0-1 in a must not lose.

We’ll have to agree to disagree but if even Latics fans can’t agree having watched it in slo mo numerous times then we can’t really blame the officials for not giving it – even if Sky’s hawkeye thing was used to prove it was in

The linesman on the West Stand dithered with virtually every decision and if there was the slightest doubt he waited for the ref to make the decision and then put his flag up in agreement.

Least said about the one on the other side the better.

Wigan won. Wigan 3 – Northampton 0. Jacobs; Grigg goal wasn’t off-side; Morsy ball went in.

          3 – 0 moral victory.

As I stated above I don’t think the Morsy shot went over the line and I had no way of telling if Grigg was offside from my seat in WS4. But I do feel that was an absolutely pitiful performance from the officials.

I have a photo on my phone of it bouncing on the line but I can’t get the damn thing up on here!!!

What does the Oracle of WS4 think from his angle? If he logs in again soon!

By my watch he arrived 6.5 minutes after KO…timekeeping Griff

Just watched it yet again on mine…hits the post, runs along the line and crosses the line just before the defender clears it.

The defender’s right foot is on the line (his toes). He’s swinging his left foot back to kick the ball.

Put it on next week’s spot the ball and see where peeps think the ball is

Don’t get me wrong here…this was out stroke of luck…not getting the goal didn’t affect the winning result. Let’s hope we don’t miss automatic promo by 1 goal on GD :S

Grigg was offside and he even turned to the ‘liner’ when trotting back and smiled and winked at her as if to say ” Ya got me there! “

He might swing his left foot back but at the exact moment he kicks the ball his left leg is much further forward & the ball has dropped in height & much less like its completely over the line.

Not saying a lot of it isn’t over the line but I don’t think it all was hence no goal.

Ultimately it didn’t matter but I think that even if it had the officials couldn’t be criticised – like I said, there are other points where it looks like it might be over but when it bounces it’s clear that it isn’t

Be no need for this discussion if we had line technology. Disgrace when teams are spending 100m on players and the amount of money being pumped in by tv, should be filtered down the leagues to pay for it.

The officials were poor, but in the end, they saved us with that handball in our penalty area near the end. No doubt the Northampton equivalent of this site are equally as disappointed in the standard of reffing.

                  Disagree Tyldesley

The ball comes off the post and bounces on the line, but it then veers over the line – either because it’s spinning, by witchcraft, due to the gravitational pull of Jupiter, or whatever

Look at the slow motion version. When their lad connects with the ball, his foot either sweeps the ground or it pretty damn close to doing that and the ball is clearly over the line – nothing to do with height and perception.

As you said though, can completely understand why the officials didn’t spot it as even with slow motion people are still disputing it.
