No he wasn’t, but the team on the pitch were following HIS instructions…. or did you not know that is how it works?

QPR were there for the taking today as the last 2 minutes showed. A little bit of urgency earlier on and that game would have been over a long time before they scored.
Its always the same, piss about passing sideways for ages and then end up losing it with a misplaced pass, and today that tactic very nearly hammered another nail into the coffin which is slowly being lowered into the hole.

Pathetic performance against one of the worst teams ever to be in the premier league, and against 10 men for most of the match!
What is the point of stepping it up a gear in the last 2 minutes when you go behind??
The lack of urgency from a team that is supposedly fighting for its lives was frightening and the only person to blame for that load of crap today is Martinez.

I didn’t see him on the pitch did he miss a sitter ?[/quote]

Was it really that bad? Jeez.

I have been very critical in the past, admittedly. But I don’t think we were too bad today. We were well in control, and then they broke and scored a screamer. They had everybody behind the ball and were hard to break down. We didn’t deserve to lose the game, and that point could be crucial.

I’m amazed how quick some have fell back into the doldrums because we haven’t won a game.

Nor did we lose. A more than crucial point.

As when any team goes down to ten men, what do they do?
Two banks of four and you have to break them down. Unfortunately they lost zamora who doesnt really impact on them defensively, so they kept their shape and tried to do us on the counter with pace which worked effectively.

The problem we faced was as soon as we got possession they stuck to the rigid shape and packed everyone in their own half basically making impossible to get behind them or in the hole between the two banks of four.. Hence we resorted to long range efforts and kone was nullified.
Our defence got sucked in, creeping further forward and with their pace we were left exposed, instead of trying to draw them out to create space it turned into a siege.

It wasnt a pretty performance but before the game you’dve taken a point knowing they’d be fired up for it and our players have one eye on the semi final. Were not adrift, we have a game inhand (albeit against city) and look at the form guide, were picking up points where other teams cannot buy a goal nevermind a point! Its wide open still, so have faith!!

          Onwards and upwards! Wembley!!! :D

Wigan have started with the same team – including McManaman – for four games.

The first half against Everton was a success. McManaman went off but in the second half Wigan just had to keep possession and see the game out.

Wigan started well against Newcastle but struggled after half time. They only sealed the win after bringing on McArthur and Di Santo.

Wigan struggled from the kick-off against Norwich. They only scored the winner after McArthur came on.

Wigan didn’t start well against QPR. Even when Zamora had been sent off, they showed little creativity. This time, the arrival of McArthur and Di Santo did not bring about an immediate transformation. However, the team did persevere til the end, and recovered to take a point.

This was a disappointing performance and poor preparation for the semi final. It raises doubts about the players and the team. In four games, this starting line-up has performed well in the first half of just two games. It has been indifferent in the other six halves of the games. Two out of eight is not a good record.

                My starting team for Saturday;
                Robles
                Scharner Alcaraz Figueroa
                Boyce McCarthy McArthur Beausejour
                Di Santo Kone

I’d think about Manchester City afterwards.

Spot on. Remember the famous Bristol Rovers game? We really struggled against seven men, because thay don’t deplete the defence but if anything shore it up more. Every man knows he has a vital role to play so ups his game. It’ often isn’t an advantage to be 11 v 10.

It isn’t often an advantage to play with 10 men! Wigan didn’t come away from Sunderland with a point.

Wigan lacked creativity from the beginning, and were careless to give QPR a scoring chance.

Several teams are still within reach of Wigan. There are several tough league fixtures next weekend. Perhaps things will look different after it.

and with our next three games being city ,westham , spuds, with a performance like that today
we just might end up staying in third from bottom
                  just a thought like.

Was it really that bad? Jeez.

Probably not in hindsight cos we came out of it with a point.

However you can’t help but feel they were there for the taking.

There was just an all round lack of urgency considering what’s at stake.

I thought McCarthy’s passing was worse than Gomez’s particularly in the first half.

We need both Jimmy Macs in the centre of midfield. Gomez,Di Santo and McManaman are competing for one place upfront really.

Anyway let’s now look forward to next Saturday now. :)

I’m not, and I’m surprised you are! ;)

Could have been much worse. Very nervy, pedestrian performance. Usually, I’d take a point away from home any day of the week, but they were definitely there for the taking today.

                  #108055

And if we’re going to have a game like that let it be one where we still get an away point, and out of our system for next week :)

                  #108061

Not a good performance but still a decent chance of a 9th year in Top division and an appearance in FA Cup Final. I’d have settled for that in the70’s when united, everton, Liverpool and rugby fans tried to make my life miserable. Sin Miedo my friends !
