Looks set for the off, officially.
Now if the following is true, I can’t quite get my head around not keeping him. He’s only a year in to a 3 year contract and we’d be letting him go for 1.5mill less than we paid for him plus we’re desperate for a striker.

Deportivo La Coruna And Latics Agree Riera Fee

Javier Picallo, the agent of Latics striker Oriol Riera, is claiming that an agreement has been reached over the proposed permanent transfer of the 29 year old to La Liga club Deportivo La Coruna.

Speaking to El Ideal Gallego, Picallo claims a fee of €700,00 has been agreed and that the two clubs are now ‘in the final stages’ of negotiations and Riera could be a Deportivo player by ‘Monday or Tuesday of next week.’

and the player himself is probably very keen for the move to happen.

Looks like the standard of the spanish premier league is very low if he is to get a regular place.

No foresight imo and who is doing the negotiating, Graham Barrow?!

Whether the player wants to go or not, with 2 years on his contract we should be getting more than that for a player who played regularly in La Liga last season and the season before last and who we paid 2 mill for.

As some say it is literally clearing a wage off, which to an extent I understand but are we that desperate to agree to half a mill? Maybe we were that chuffed with getting 1.5m for McClean we’ve gone all giddy!

I didn’t say we should, I just think we should have got a better price if he’s offski

Wigan don’t want him, and Riera doesn’t want to be at Wigan. So there’s a need to get him off the payroll.

Interested clubs will be fully aware of all of this, so in my opinion £1.5m is a decent deal.

Agreed Standish, I would say 1.5 mill would be half decent, a third of that amount isn’t. ;)

Oh dear. I didn’t see the report that it was EUR 700k.

Last I heard, EUR 2m had been offered.

If it’s indeed EUR 700k, that’s not great!

It’s not great, but we will have saved in the region of £20K a week in wagesfor the last 6 months and the next 24 months.
He will however need replacing, more than likely with a free transfer on lower wages, but nevertheless who ever we get can hardly be as ineffective as Riera.

Or should it be, who ever replaces Riera will be given half a fekin chance to prove himself. That lad was treated shocking and was just finding his feet when for whatever reason he was left out in the cold. When are managers going to learn that some players hit the ground running, others take a bit more time.

Strange things go on at football clubs and fans never get to know the full story. Maybe he realised he’d made a mistake by coming to England and wanted out right from the start or maybe he wasn’t given a chance as you say.

Grant Holt was never given a chance by Rosler even though he was a proven goalscorer, yet MAF was given chance after chance after chance even though everyone could see he was fucking useless as a lone striker.

Hopefully Gary Caldwell will learn from previous managers’ failings and get it right, I think us fans deserve it after the last two seasons.
