only two seasons in the last 9 have we seen anything other than relegation battles which to me represents a very steady decline which i cannot see ending.
Until we see a change in the policy the club follows then i see more of the same next year and i think more departures are very likely.
Alleged fight promoter style talk is about getting 100 points next year (pigs with wings if that happens under the present regime)and we are going to batter league 1.
All good stuff when you trying to flog season tickets but we all know what they likely reality is dont we?
A clearout of any player on high wages, inadequate replacements and last minute failed attempts when the window closes in August but no doubt successful player sales of anyone left that is worth any money or loan fees.
It doesnt look good whichever way you look at it and my expectation for next year is a squad made up of cheap signings and development squad players.
League 1 is a very mean league and if the scenario above is the case then its league 2 next year or a very serious relegation battle at least.
All we are getting from now is talk about who is leaving rather than who is arriving.
The team that took 6 seasons to get out of this division between 1997 and 2003 had a very heavy investment and that is certainly not going to happen this time in my opinion.
There is an even bumpier ride ahead in my opinion however the apathy from our supporters is staggering and can only mean they took up with Latics post 2005.I am not sure how serious they are taking the clubs current plight-has the reality of it kicked in FFS???
I am very angry about the situation we could easily have avoided-no more to be said!

Every dog has its day and all that. The bubble had to burst sooner or later. Amazed it has taken so long. Perhaps a few of the Whelan haters may start to see why we were so successful in the first place!

I’m looking at this differently, rightly or wrongly.

David Sharpe, [who I originally thought was far too young and wet behind the years to take on the chairman’s job]is sending out all the right messages. I am warming to him more and more and for a lad of his age, has got extremely large testicles to take on this job with the club in free fall.
No doubt he has been instructed by Sir Dave, to keep the finances in good nick, but having seen him on the terraces standing shoulder to shoulder with fellow tics mon, his passion is from the heart and hes one of us.
The same with Gary Caldwell, he is building a team to get us out of this league, so expect a mixture of youth and old heads. The likes of Billy Sharp, if he signs, has scored for fun in league one and hopefully will do the same for us.
You can’t go building a team beyond the division you are in, once promoted [ with 100 points or less] then its out with the old and in with the new again.

Some fans on here just can’t seem to move on and will be still be moaning if we are 10 points clear of the rest come Christmas.
At the end of the day its little Wigan we are on about, the team who have surprised the world of football with what it has achieved this past 10-12 years. We don’t need our fans to suddenly become Johnny Big Bollux cos we are going through a rough patch.
This coming season is going to be a big, big challenge, no matter what team GC assembles. We are the team everyone will want to beat, so don’t be fooled in thinking we just need to spend millions on players and everything will be alright. I want to see the likes of Chow and Power chasing crisp packets and some older head creating that magic pass for the likes of Grant Holt to finish off.
Here’s to a great season and please chill out boys, we can start worrying if we are hovering around the relegation zone come Christmas, but not 6 weeks before the season flippin starts.

            From Matlock to ManU
            What a journey!
