Right, all you slagging Coyle off, heres something you may find interesting about his recruitment as Latics manager. This comes from someone “very close” to Owen Coyle who told me this recently.
Our esteemed then chairman, met with Owen Coyle at Charnock Richard golf club to discuss him becoming the new Latics boss. They talked about the club, football, whatever, and the chairman then said “so do you fancy the job?”
Coyle said “well, yes, but what about the finances?” To which the chairman grasped his hand to shake on it and said “do you want the job?” Again, Coyle asked about finances and budgets, but the chairman was just grasping his hand and saying “the job is yours”.
And thats how the meeting ended. Coyle drove home to Clitheroe, thinking there would be another meeting to iron out the finances and available budgets. However, by the time he arrived home, it was all over Sky Sports that we had appointed him as our manager! Coyle couldn’t believe it.
Our esteemed mouth piece of a chairman had done it again. It sounds about right that budgets and finances were avoided.
Apparently as well, Owen Coyle still loves Latics as a club and wants us to do well. One major disappointment was Grant Holt. He thought he would be a great signing, but it didnt work out.
