Which would lead to the same people complaining that he didn’t make changes for a competition that is third on our list of priorities.
I agree with the “win every game” comments because I hate losing, but financially we could win both cups and end up with less money than we would if we stayed in the Championship.
Fans have to understand that it’s a business now led by Sky and the money they plough into the PL and that what we as fans want (cup runs etc) doesn’t matter. In essence the Sky money and the media that treat anything outside the top flight with contempt have ruined the game.
15 August 2018 at 3:34 pm #171125But egg losing a game in any cup competition doesn’t guarantee your league position especially as it is so early in the season. We are not getting the greed money anymore so whilst what you say is correct we now need any revenue we can generate from all games.
15 August 2018 at 3:45 pm #171126No it doesn’t, but obviously Cookie would rather play his best XI in league games.
Second choice players got a competitive run out last night as well which will benefit them.
15 August 2018 at 3:53 pm #171128Pre-season which was not long ago was the time to give run outs and experiment.
Last night maybe wasnt the most important of matches but still wasn’t the time to tinker and experiment. We could still have given players who need match time a run out ie Windass and Evans and have been more competitive too by playing players in position.
A plum draw away at Old Trafford would possibly given the income for another left back too.15 August 2018 at 4:20 pm #171130We would need to get to the 3rd round for that to happen and Utd away in the League Cup is not as ‘plum’ a tie as Utd in the FA Cup is although the FA are doing their best to stop that happening as well.
15 August 2018 at 4:25 pm #171131You get £100K for winning it and 45% of the gate receipts after costs. We will earn more on Saturday.
It isn’t 1993/1994 anymore (when I started and it was a big thing) the competition is dead.

16 August 2018 at 8:56 am #171139If its so dead why did the best team in Britain win it last season. How come they bothered against another of the country’s big hitters. And lets get it straight mass changes have only come about recently. Utd and Arsenal started this off in the league cup because of European games being part of their season. Its nothing more than following a trend by copying the big boys.
16 August 2018 at 10:45 am #171140Think you answered your own question nunny lad.
Like eggy said, they test rule changes in the comp and do the draw at 2am so even the FA dont see it as a big deal anymore.

It was only at 2am because it was drawn in the country of the sponsor. Draw for next round tonight at 7pm. Talk about dramatization.
17 August 2018 at 1:43 pm #171165It could have been Everton away and some more valuable match time for some players.

Was still at 2am regardless of the reason. They still test rules in the comp.
Its the top flights version of the checkatrade. Shite.
Talk about wiganers having a moan over anything.

Firstly its not the top flights version of the Checkatrade, they don’t even have to enter it and those who do its their U23s who play in it.
Secondly they used and tested VAR in the World Cup, that other meaningless competition.
18 August 2018 at 11:56 am #171178Top flight clubs dont have to enter the league cup? What are you talking about?
