confirmed now on BBC , absolutely ridiculous decision , he has had sod all to work with and gained promotion with a cobbled together team.
The players that have underperformed will still be here and same ability so why is a new manager going to change things ??
Sacked managers previously at this time of the season in 2014 and in 2016 and both resulted in relegation from this division , we might as well make a Yo-Yo our fcukin club badge !!
Good luck Leam , our most popular manager in my opinion and absolutely he will wind up in a job somewhere very quickly.

It doesn’t shock me it’s a result based business and lets face it were not getting them. He signed a new deal with the owners full well knowing he was on his last legs so it’s a good will gesture from the owners with a golden handshake.

He did brilliant to get us out the sh1t my hat goes off but of late the performances and choice of players on the pitch beggared belief. It’s horses for courses and LR reached his peak in League One. We were very lucky in the end to go up never mind win it. It was only because others lost when we did that we got to the championship. we won something like 4-5 in our last 13 that’s a quarter of the season and in any other League you’d drop out the playoffs.

Tuesday away at Coventry reached the pinnacle of everything that is wrong with LR. Aasgaard,Shinnie & Broadhead all on the bench while Darikwa plays right mid and Edwards sits it out on the bench and Scully sits it out forever. The constant long ball even to Broadhead who we all can see and know likes it played on the ground and off the shoulder of the last man. McClean who a year on and division higher is starting to show signs of fatigue and that this league is all too much for him but LR’s loyalty shines through.

Then there’s the constant tinkering with a min of 3 changes and tactics per game never allowing for a side to settle and why ?, all to keep senior players happy. If it aint broke then don’t fix it but reverse that and ours is shattered and desperately needs fresh idea’s and a total different approach. I wanted him to succeed but the signs were there especially the Pompey away game.
I’m sure he will be held in high regard at Latics but as a club we cannot afford to go down that would be a disaster. We need a manager in while the world cups on and funding in Jan. We need someone experienced who’s not afraid to tread on senior players toes and not scared to drop them for the sake of the team.

I’m sad to see him go for sure but football’s football and based on the end of last season and this season the owners were left with no choice.

Agree totally with cup winners. It was obvious to see he had his 5-6 favourite players and they were getting picked no matter how they played.
The main ones being Amos, Tilt, Darakwa, Power and McLean. The form of those 5 has been awful to say the least. Amos before being injured was letting shots in from all angles, Tilt can’t mark up, he has the positional awareness of a school kid. People see the 2 or 3 things he’s done well in the game, Miss all his fuck ups and give him the motm.
Darakwa does not know how to pass the ball forward and misses tackles left right and center. McLean just hasn’t got the legs to play as a wing back and is a heart in mouth defender.
The worse one for me though is Power. He spends more time pointing at others to do stuff he doesn’t do anything himself. I watched him during the Stoke game and his first tackle and close down came on 55 mins. In the Swansea game he let players run past him into the box for both goals. We never scored from any of his long throws, but he is good at taking free kicks, that’s were his contribution ends.
I would include Keane in that lust, but its the position he plays not the player himself. He disappears down that “hole” just popping up to score goals from corners and free kicks.
The constant playing if 3 at the back to fit Tilt in the team was not working. Add to that playing 3 defensive midfielders in the same starting line up plus a man in the hole meant we were giving the opposition full control of the game both home and away.
So that’s what let Leam down, in my opinion. It was obvious he wasn’t prepared to change things and also not let other players have a decent run in the team.
A big thank you for all he’s done for our club but it was time for him to go. I wish him all the best in his next venture and he will always be seen as one of the best managers Wigan Athletic have ever had, for various reasons.

I personally feel he does not know how to deal with senior players and when to drop them. This is were good managers show their true colours knowing how to keep a happy camp without upsetting the apple cart.
LR’s approach to this was make min 3 changes per game and rotate.

We need an injection of pace
              We need width
We need a ball playing midfielder to do the simple stuff similar to how a Perkins would do and keep the ball moving quickly.

And finally drop players who don’t play well and end the long ball sh*t

Terrible decision ,he has only just been given a three year contract makes no sense whatsoever. He would have got things right and I am sure he would have kept us up. Don’t forget he was given virtually no funds in the summer and that’s the reason we are struggling. Top Manager and a top bloke ,I am sure he will go on and be a great success at another club , we have made a huge mistake.

Very bad decision. Up there with appointing Mackay…

Obviously home form especially hasn’t been good this season but with so much of the season still to go and given how compact the table is way too early to be changing manager.

The board need to get the appointment right and show real commitment in the January window, or I fear the fans will turn on the owners. I’ll no doubt end up there on Saturday, but at the moment I’m seriously considering boycotting Saturday’s game; from what I’m hearing I’m not alone.

A sad day for the club. All the best for the future Leam; you’ve been treated badly.

As I said on the Coventry thread. What did people expect this season?

If we had spent millions then fair enough, but we have literally asked him to keep a L1 side in the Championship.

People talk about favourites, but every manager has their favourites. It never seems to matter though until you lose.

This appointment needs to be a good one, but they also need backing in January otherwise it’s another Joyce/Mackay fiasco.

Football is a results business and LR wasn’t getting them, to get relegated would be a disaster, there’s more to this dismissal than we are being told, the timing has been spot on with the WC break very close, the owners have made the right call in my opinion.

Leams stubbornness with the tactics and favouritism cost him his job.

                    Fuck the EFL

Get the feeling Leam has raised his concerns about the off the field issues that have been going on over the last few weeks that must have had an affect on the teams performances. Just does not make any sense, he was given a three year contract three weeks ago and now he is sacked , crazy decision.

Better change your name from leylandtic forever to leylandleam forever. I got sick of seeing the same 5-6 names on the team sheet every week it was getting boring watching them tbh. 3 central defenders, 3 defensive midfielders and man in the hole???
He caused his own downfall, why bring players in and not play them? Foolish man IMHO who probably like most of the players found the championship a step too far.

Personally I think the owners thought alot of LR and wanted him to do well. I feel its been on the cards for a few weeks but they gave LR the 3 year deal as a goodwill/golden handshake for all the sh1t he went through at the beginning.
I dearly wanted it to work out for him but for reasons only he knows his stubbornness and unwilling to experiment and drop certain senior players was his downfall.

Tuesdays starting 11 left me absolutely baffled and it turned out to be the straw that broke the camels back for our owners.

I just hope whoever takes over wipes the slate clean and that includes those tossed out on loan. I bet deep down a few players are made up he’s gone

Congratulations – you have out-basketcased Sunderland there by potting a manager a week after giving him a 3 year deal. What happens now to the Liam Richardson Stand?

Definitely to remain the Leam Richardson stand.

At the end of the day what was our owners meant to do?, carry on because LR performed miracles the other year
                              Or
Sack him and have 4 weeks to appoint a new manager and the a Jan window were we can hopefully bring one or two in and not to warm the bench a flaw LR was a master of.
