Why would you want to kick your lad out, especially during this cold snap?

        From Matlock to ManU
        What a journey!

Loudmouth….I’m not criticising here, but have you been watching Wigan for a while? The reason I ask is that you constantly use disparaging phrases to describe Martinez, or, simply refer to him as the ‘Spanish One’ or similar.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but for anyone who watched him in his playing days, it would be difficult to be disrespectful towards him (perhaps that could possibly cloud the judgement for people like myself).

Do you not respect the fact that we have a young manager who is still learning, and who is trying to do something different at Wigan? Yes he has made mistakes, but there have been good performances. Also, he is the first manager for an awful long time who is genuinely happy to be at the club.

Every manager favours players he has worked with in the past (for a examples look at Bruce bringing ex-Birmingham players with him, and even Jewell with ex-Bradford players), and granted, Scotland and Gomez have not yet lived up to their pre-season hype.

The aim for this season is to stay up and then build from that next season, so can we not wait until May and then judge if he is ‘clueless’ etc. then?

hang on a minute i’ll get my hanky out and dry my eyes,
you say its the first time in ages we have someone “genuinely happy to be at the club”
isnt that what the swansea fans were led to believe, they have been /are all happy until something better comes up.
yes i have many issues with the current set up i actually think he has not got a clue and nothing from the stuffings at norwich pre season ,at blackpool ,pompey and spurs or anything in between has changed my mind, martinez and his negative tactics lost us the game at anfield against the worst liverpool team for 40 years.

all i seem to hear is how bad bruce was and how good this pretty passing stuff is,well if you think 50 sideways passes and then pass it back for bramble to knock a 50 yard diagonal pass straight into touch is quality god help us,teams dont even bother to tackle us any more they just wait until we have fiddled about with it for 5 minutes and then give them the ball back.

i do have sympathy with martinez because i honestly believe he is a pawn in whelans bale out/down sizing plans, but niether him his backroom staff or any players he has signed, well perhaps diame are good enough and with the loss of a few more big earners/senior pro’s in january, and the signing of a few more of bobs bargain buys, the whelan master plan is bearing fruition.

Fck me, mate, you are thinking EXACTLY the same as me. Thank god it’s not just me.
My opinion of ‘good football’ is basically anything that gets you a win. As a player myself, and later a manager, I was always open to changing styles, depending on opposition and the situation. I always thought, and said, that the aim should be to get that ball in the box as much as possible. As a player, I played as a defensive midfielder/centre back. We played 4-4-2 and had two fast wingers. I used to say to them before games “when I get the ball, get ready to go” and basically, every time I got the ball, I launched a diagnal ball, aiming for the corner of the penalty area, with back-spin on. The winger would get on it, cross the ball. and more often than not we’d score. Simple.

No matter who you are as a manager, you should always play to your players strengths. I’m not sure Martinez does. He obviously wants us to play a style similar to Arsenal, yet we don’t have the players. And our current squad is not good enough to playa rigid 4-5-1 formation throughout the season. At the end of the day, it didn’t exactly get any real reward in the Championship, when he was at Swansea, did it? So I wonder why he thinks he can play it in the Premiership. I honestly believe a rigid 4-4-2 would suit us better. But then again, we are a striker short. It’s buy decent players or bust this January, one way or another.

I think Zola may get fired off soon, as well. Mark Hughes for West Ham, when Gold and Sullivan takeover? Possible.

Mancini’s transfer targets for January are thought to be Liverpool duo Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano, Bayern Munch winger Franck Ribery, Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero, Benfica winger Angel Di Maria, Barcelona duo Yaya Toure and Thierry Henry and West Ham defender Matthew Upson.

I find it highly amusing that the owners seem to think that by buying all these ‘stars’, they are guaranteed success. Hughes spent what? £200 million? Their last 2 results were a 3-0 defeat and a 4-3 win. Hmmm….

Ha Ha!! That’s a classic! ‘John Colby, of West Ham United’, eh?

“Pass the bladdy bawl!!” And ‘Luis Fernandez’, “from Trinidad”. **

No, my point was that football is only as hard and as complicated as you make it. To use an old cliché, you need to get the ball in the ‘onion bag’. You can’t do that playing sideways passes in your own half. And also, use the ability of the players at your disposal. (I.E. Blackburn were short of strikers, so Allardyce used Samba as a battering ram, which was highly effective)

** Pelé’s overhead kick? He actually got it bang on first take. Oh, and none of the other actors got on with Stallone. They all camped out together whilst he had his own trailer. Funniest thing is the 70’s fashions in the crowd scenes at the end.
