Saturday On The Whole, Was Awful.

And no, I’m not just talking about the result and performance.

For starters, it was a late kick off. All week I had been looking forward to the game. I figured it was two passing sides playing each other, and therefore it would be a fairly close game, but one with lots of good passing moves and posession for both sides. A ‘technical’ game between two sides managed by men of matching philosophy.

But by the time the kick off time of 5.30pm came around, I was already thinking “jeez, I can’t be arsed now”, as it seemed that the game had taken all day to come, and for me personally, it dragged. I looked at the clock at 2.45pm and thought “We should be in the ground now getting ready for a hum-dinger of a game”. But no. So the game kicked off, at a time when I am usually either at home, or close to getting home. All thanks to satellite TV. Damn you, Sky, and more so, damn you ESPN for having an effect on kick off times. Either screen our games at 3pm, or don’t flamin well bother.

On top of this, on entering the ground, I found myself surrounded by a group of lads who I would guess were about 18 years of age, if that. Maybe 17. They were clearly talking in derogatory terms about our opponents, Liverpool. Nothing wrong with that. I agreed totally. But then one of them, the gobby one, starts giving it the “Hillsborough” song. Now I as much as any non-scouser will admit that this ‘Justice for the 96’ campaign has gone on probably long enough. The inquest last year and the subsequent apology and admittance of guilt from South Yorks Police has, in many ways, drawn a line under the thing, and brought some closure. But was there any need for a Wigan fan of such an age to gob off aboiut it?

I asked him how old he was? He went on the defensive “wots tha matter?” the brain dead prick shot back at me, to which I replied “Coz you weren’t even fuckin born when that happened and haven’t got a clue what you’re on about!”.

I swear now, if my kids hadn’t been in close proximity, about 10 yards ahead with their grandad, I would’ve butted the mouthy prick into next week. If I bump into him again at a future game, I think I may well do so.

IS THIS THE TYPE OF PRICK WE HAVE ATTRACTED IN BEING IN THE PREMIERSHIP?

If so, then I hope we do go down this season, just so this prick and his mates and ilk can feck off back to claiming to be ‘Man Yoo’ supporters.

My dad went for a walk at half time and reckons there was a group of about 300-400 on the East Stand concourse, up near ES2 area, who were all jumping up and down, chucking beer over each other and singing about “tell me ma me ma…to put the champagne on ice…” etc. I asked if they were kids and he said “No, they were blokes in their 30’s and 40’s, wearing t-shirts (In early March…clever people…) and tracksuits”.

DEAR GOD, WE’VE GOT SOME RIGHT UN’S FOLLOWING THIS CLUB……

People moan about bad crowds, but give me quality rather than quantity ANY DAY. That 3,000 from Springfield were worth more than these pricks, anyday.

West Stand for me, next season.

So Saturday….yes, shit performance, and a shit day all round for me. many more days like that experience and I’m jackin in going to matches, I think.
