5 March 2013 at 11:32 pm #104543AnonymousThe season on a whole as been awful 2 home wins so far tells the sorry story, the Martinez luvies can dress it up how they like we are shite :silly:
I don’t get how people don’t just see it how it is, and the fact that we have been god awful all season. It’s so so shite.
I am sure that any other club and their fans would’ve gone mad about it. Perhaps its down to the mentality of Wiganers? I mean, if you go back years to the 1920’s miners strike, Wigan miners were the first to break the picket lines and return to work, thus accepting the same poor pay and conditions that all miners were on strike for in the first place. (hence the nickname ‘pie eaters’ as they had to eat humble pie)
So even then, Wiganers had putting up with shite in their make up, where as elsewhere they held out and got better pay and conditions.
So Wiganers have history of putting up with shit.
6 March 2013 at 12:16 am #104553I think I can lay one claim that many of you can’t. I actually saw David Icke play. For Hereford at Southport in about 1971. I don’t know about saving the world. On that performance he’d drop it.

It could be that the majority of the fans are level headed enough to realise that we are where we are due to crowds finances etc etc it is a select few who seem to have turned into Newcastle fans going beserk because they are not spending vast amounts of money and paying high wages
Now then how come we have won more away this season than we have at home ??

Are you actually suggesting that the home fans have had an adverse effect on our players ? I have yet to see any banners or hear any chants that have been in any way derogatory to our team or manager.

All those fans left because we were 3-0 down and playing absolutely shocking what do they expect ? As for the booing of players, I have never heard any individual players being booed but they have all been booed off several times this season both at half time and at full time ( Yes I do stay to the end sometimes ! ) but they only have themselves to blame for getting a reaction like that !

They expect support Phil. That’s why we don’t have a Wigan Athletic Detractors Club.
Never heard individual players being booed but heard them booed off???? Are one of the Dave From Skems? You are making no sense.
6 March 2013 at 1:12 pm #104571i didn’t hear any booing but to be honest i was long gone before half time

Read my post again as I said ” All booed off ” ! Makes perfectly good sense and I know deep down that I don’t have to elucidate any further to you Griff. Stop being facetious it doesn’t suit you, a bit like that Next Bretonesque top you had on when I last saw you ! ;)

So, it’s acceptable to boo them all off, but not individuals? Oh well, as long as they can feel shit as a group, then!
Please don’t lecture me on fashion.

If people want to show their disapproval I guess it is their prerogative, they have paid good money out at the end of the day. I myself have never booed but booing has been a way of showing displeasure since the days of the ancient Greeks, they should think themselves lucky that they don’t get slaughtered or have rotten fruit chucked at them ! They are on wages that surely must help them develop a thick skin and if I was playing and got booed it would make me question my performance and I would do my utmost best to rectify the situation ! Like I said, booing has been around for over a thousand years and as long as folk continue to feel dissatisfied with certain situations then I’m afraid that it will be around for the unforeseeable future ! It’s just the way of the World, you do well you get applauded, you do shit then disparagement reigns free ! I wouldn’t say boo to a goose would I ! ;)

The difference between making your feelings known at a show, a play, a concert etc, is you’re there merely to be entertained. And you are (and I’ve used this distinction several times before over the years) a spectator, not a supporter.
Being a supporter means you get behind the team, cheer them on, and put up with the crap during bad times because they’re ‘your team’.
Being a spectator means if the entertainment on offer is not up to your expectations, you boo.
We have far too many spectators and not enough supporters.
