I thought this, as there is a full football card on the Saturday, I would have thought the TV company would want the ‘bigger game’ on the Sunday to maximise revenue. So we’ll be on Thursday night :woohoo:  I mean Saturday
If Chelsea win their replay – and also overturn their 1-0 first leg deficit in the Europa League they would have the Europa League QF 2nd leg on the Thursday night before FA Cup weekend – meaning that they’d play in the Sunday semi Final.
Not sure when the replay is (probably next midweek?) but surely we wont all be left hanging on until then to find out when we are playing ?
If Chelsea do overcome Steaua Buch’t this Thurs then I can’t see were they will be able to fit it in with the international break and the UEFA Quarter Finals on the 4th and the 11th of April.
If they do it will be the 2nd/3rd April , , I think they will release a date after the Thursday game. I reckon Sat 12:30 KO…..
Chelsea fixtures with internationals reads like this on about cram it in ;-
I think the powers to be on this one buried their heads in the sand with it being a “what if” scenario.
If they do go through to the 1/4 finals of the EUFA I just can’t see a date unless they field a 8th string team that haven’t been selected international week.
In Chelsea’s case Man U would be facing the kit man, 4 groundsmen 3 steward’s, 3 program sellers, and subs made up of T.A’s (toilet attendants).
The only way around would be to cancel a prem game to make way.
The obvious date would be Wed 3 Apr, but if Chelsea win their Euro tie, I would expect the Chelsea v Man Utd replay to take place on either 30/31 March or 6 Apr, and the respective premier league games moved, although they will have to be quick for the former, as Sky are planning to show Sunderland v Man Utd, and as sky are not interested in the FA Cup, they may object.
My reasoning for that date is that Fulham whom Chelsea deconflict with for home games are playing QPR on 1 Apr.
I reckon they will announce the semi dates well before then – why inconvenience the fans of Man City, Wigan and Blackburn/Millwall? After all, Man Utd or Chelsea playing at wembley at short notice doesnt affect their fans – they all come from London anyway!
Utd play City Monday live sky game on the 8th April so both would more than likely be asking for the Sunday if they were to meet in the semi’s.
Chelsea have a fixture against Spurs still penciled for Sunday the 14th at home with a 16:00 KO and Utd are still down to play away at Stoke on the same day so one of those games will be lost.
Lets say Utd win the replay, will they allow a Utd v City semi final with a likely teatime KO to be played on the same day as a Chelsea v Spurs 16:00 KO ?.
Me thinks the plod and TV will have something to say about this.
Paying for Wembley Stadium aside for a minute, perhaps the FA should consider playing future Quarter Finals and Semi Finals at neutral grounds. Revenues split between both clubs drawn together and more importantly ties decided on the day, extra time then pens in the event of a draw !
