      Beat me to it, George.

After the recent attack on the Max Power artwork as well….and this is why there will never ever be a united front in the town.

When I used to work on taxis, I had people in on a regular basis who would show total disdain, bordering on loathing, at the sheer mention of Latics. Never known a place like Wigan, with regards to the feelings towards the towns football club. A lot of the town dont deserve a football club in their town. Theyd happily go along with peanut hugging and booking their challenge cup tickets in January. My nan was one of them. Hadnt been to Central Park since 1948, yet went to Wembley every year in the 80s. Im sure she hated the fact I was a blue, and not a cherry and white shite.

Sorry, but fuck em. Horrible bastards.

Works both ways sadly Vat. Obviously as a proud fan of both I disagree with plenty that gets spouted by both sides because usually it’s shit, but stuff like this really doesn’t help.

Third case of anti Latics sentiments recently.

          The stickers…..

          The graffiti on the artwork….

          The vandalized statue.

Be funny if someone was to paint ‘Eusebio’ on the statue outside the life centre…..

No it wouldn’t be funny in the slightest. It would just make us as bad as them. We need to rise above the pettiness and show that we are superior to the kind of brainless cretin that does something like that.

Perhaps those vandals have forgot that Mr Whelan helped them out in the past with his finances.

And no doubt, if it all kicks off now, then history will once again be rewritten by the klumps so that it is all our fault.

The egg has already been spray painted blue once.

Rugby fans always forget that without Whelan the club would either not exist or be playing in Horwich. Its the same with the stadium, no matter how much evidence you provide they still believe their own deluded view.

I hope this doesn’t start any retaliation but I fear it will. Shame really as we have two clubs we should be really proud of.

Sorry, but your reasoning about them on a Latics forum….nah, it doesnt see fit.

The hatred and contemptuous acts from that lot towards Latics is beyond either excuse, or comedy. Its been that way since we were on our arses as a club, at Springfield Park.

The Eusebio comment was made tongue in cheek. Chill a bit, ffs. Personally, the rugby club of this town is of no interest to me. Rugby League isnt either. I was brought up in a football mad town where it never entered the equation. Lucky me.

I recently drove past the statue and slowed down to take a better look. I thought, well it’s just a question of time. A prime target for attack and easy prey being off the beaten track with those slender ribbons not too difficult to damage.

Maybe it was mindless vandalism by kids not necessarily connected to the rugby but there’s no doubt the rugby lot are still very bitter about the indignity of Whelan having saved them from bankruptcy and providing them with a modern stadium in their home town. Whereas we consider the DW to be our stadium they don’t and having Whelan outside holding the FA Cup just reinforces that view.

I don’t know what the club can do other than having some kind of security there. Maybe there’s CCTV footage but that doesn’t always provide conclusive evidence. And will the new owners, or Whelan himself, be all that concerned about trying to prevent it happening again especially if it involves some financial outlay.

No reasoning vat. Just why lower ourselves to their levels? Cant call em scumbags if we retaliate
