So Bobby either has to have a massive clear out & almost totally rebuild his squad (in which case I think we’re f00ked) or he keeps hold of most of those who make up the numbers & loses 3 of his star players & has to replace them with cheaper versions (in which case I think we’re f00ked)

I won’t argue with the list of players that you have said should go or those that will more than likely go to better themselves. But the net result is it’s an awful lot of people to shift out in one chuck.

That’s sort of what I was hinting at with the 3 v. 33 transfer windows. If he said he needed 3 to get to where he wants to be, then either this summer has to see some huge activity, or he is more content with the squad he already has than you, me and uncle Tom Cobley and his mates probably are.

I’m looking foward to the summer – then, and only then, will I tell you if I am looking forward to next season! :?

I am pretty sure it was at the fans forum that he said he would need two or three transfre windows…. that takes us to January.

FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

So, he wasn’t counting last summer when he brought in Gomez, Scotland, etc as one of his windows?

I’ve just checked and he said (on top half/Euro finish), “he did specify that we will be looking to have the squad and the performances to get us to that next level within the next two to three years.”

With the right players, there’s no reason why Martinez can’t be a success, this season has been a transitional season where the players and fans have got used to the “new” Wigan that plays more attractive football than a long ball game.

I am a Martinez fan, probably one of his biggest.

This guy is a geniune wigan fan, a supporter who wants the club to succeed. He is a legend, a true gentleman! He’s also already succeeded at Wigan both as a player and a manager. He said he wanted us to stay up this season and we have, he has managed to win 3 games against the ‘big 4’ and also changed the way we play football from a long ball hoof contest to a steady, balanced, attacking style starting from the back. It hasn’t always worked BUT as someone pointed out when it has worked we have looked very good.

With regards to some of Bobby’s signings, I think the likes of Caldwell and Gomez will improve next season. Caldwell has only been here a few months and I think Gomez just needs time (he is still young). I have been one of many who thinks Gomez isn’t up to it BUT i’m hoping with a bit of work in the summer he will be a good squad player next season.

McCarthy and Moses are both 19 years old, both have shown very good potential and have settled in pretty quickly.

Hopefully, we can keep Hugo and Zog as they’ve been arguably our 2 best players for the best part of the season. Under Bruce Zog wasn’t over impressive (apart from the goal at Sunderland) but under Martinez he really has shone and shown everybody just how good he is.

Diame and Thomas have formed a pretty decent partnership in midfield, Thomas being the hard tackling ball winning defensive midfielder and Diame being the more agile attacking type midfielder who has a very good eye for passing. Diame will go from strength to strength and although Thomas hasn’t been outstanding I think he will also look better next season now he’s had a year in the premier league.

Regarding transfers, it looks as though Mario and Scharner will be leaving (out of contract). We have a few players (fringe players) who are currently featuring for the reserves/out on loan that will probably be sold/released + the likes of Koumas who really needs to be sold a.s.a.p. I also think a few players we’ve been linked with in past transfer windows (under Martinez) will be signed in the summer, the likes of Marco Ruben, Leon Britton, Aritz Aduriz, Jose Callejon, Marco Ramos, Gary Hooper, James McArthur, Cristian Riveros, Albert Crusat, etc. All these players have been linked with the club, most will more than likely be rumours but some will be genuine targets. Gary Hooper has scored a pan full for Scunthorpe this season, he’s a young striker who would be a huge gamble but we are Wigan Athletic and we have to take a chance on players like this.

Roberto will know who he wants/needs and I have faith in him bringing in the right players.

Current rumours suggest he’s considering signing Sinclair and Moreno on permanent deals if the price is right. He knows how they’ve been performing in training and what sort of potential they’re showing so, I believe if they are good enough for him, they’re good enough for us (both only early 20’s also).

Prediction for next season: Chelsea to win back to back titles, City to break the top 3, Wigan to finish mid-table and Wolves, West Brom and play off side to be relegated.

Are you crazy? Dindane and Van den Borre are shocking to say the least, they just look good in a poor Pompey side (awaits 4-0 and Dindane scored a hattrick response)

Fair play Jamie O’Hara is good, but he’s a centre mid, I don’t think he’d be a good replacement for N’Zogbia if it’s a winger we’re looking for.

              I think we need a new…

              Back up keeper
              Right Back
              Centre Back
Right mid (or left depending on whether Charlie stays and where Bobby plans on playing Moses next year)
Attacking centre mid, or the “Gomez role”
              Striker

i wouldnt say either of them 2 are shocking, Dindane is far better than scotland/ moreno so hes better than our strikers… and i thought van den borre had a good game against wigan hes belgiums no1 right back. He played very well considering he was playing allong side a bunch of reserves…. Im sure bobby will do us proud with regards too signings we’l have a young talented squad :D [/quote]

Sorry but apart from the odd mistake Bob’s signings have been shoite Scotland who in goals on Sunday Bob said he would kick on next season, Gomez, Ayma, Stoichovic need I go on.

So why are you so confident????

                Diame, McCarthy, Moses?????

What you have chose to do is name the few that haven’t quite kicked on as soon as we would have all liked. I’m sure Martinez himself would also admit this but he has worked with Scotland and Gomez previously so hopefully he’ll know and believe in their ability. What he has signed is what is available to our club with our budget.

You have failed to mention how good N’Zogbia has been since Martinez was appointed manager. Under Bruce last year he didn’t look worth the £6m we paid but this season he looks worth at least double that.

Look at Fergie at Utd, he’s signed some real s**t (Taibi, Veron, Forlan, Anderson, Berbatov, etc – I could go on forever) but nobody questions him, Bruce signed Marlon King, Dan De Ridder, Oliver Kapo, etc – again I could go on. All managers make poor signings from time to time, Martinez bought Scotland and Gomez because they were fantastic for Swansea and he’s worked with them both before. Fergie bought Veron and Berbatov, etc as they were fantastic for their previous clubs. My point is all managers will sign cr@p every now and again, Stojkovic is on loan as a back-up, Martinez has explained Scotland and Gomez were rushed into the side too quickly due to other players not being up to it (i.e. de ridder, kapo, etc). He has been left with some real rubbish, he tried with Koumas but failed, he’s been given chance after chance but just isn’t good enough. On the whole, we’ve achieved what we needed to this season with a rookie manager still learning the premier league who has transformed a hoof (under Bruce) team into a passing side with some good and bad (sometimes very poor) results along the way.

“Martinez has explained Scotland and Gomez were rushed into the side too quickly due to other players not being up to it”

Well if Bobby says it then it must be true!!! The only problem with that being that it went completely against what he said when he signed them – Gomez in particular was going to be the creative hub of our play. Scotland would have “no problem” adapting. 4 months later he was saying he’d only ever wanted to “ease them in”.
The other problem with that statement of Bobby’s was that he wants us to believe that he thought the likes of Kapo & De Ridder would be able to do the job till he eased the others in. Well you either don’t believe him (which I don’t) or you believe him & then you would have to question what on earth gave him that belief???? These were players (who along with Koumas) had been bought & dropped by our 2 previous managers coz they weren’t good enough – did he not look at their appearance stats over that period & think that was a reason why they’d only had a handful of appearances between them?? Bearing in mind Whelan’s comments about the players left by Bruce I’m sure that at some point over the summer he would have said to him “players x, y, z, a ….. etc..) are gash

I’d have more respect for Bobby if he said “some of my signings haven’t worked out” than I have when he lies to try & cover up his mistakes or when I hear him talking about how good the likes of Scotland & Gomez will be next year coz neither of them will be premier league quality players in a million years & it just leads me to question his judgement if he thinks they (along with rumours re Sinclair & Moreno) will be

“this season has been a transitional season where the players and fans have got used to the “new” Wigan that plays more attractive football than a long ball game.”

All i can say to that is that you must have been watching a different Wigan Athletic to me coz the style of football has for the vast majority of games been dire. In a very select few it has looked good admittedly but there were also games under “long ball” Bruce (for all you that slate his style of football) looked pretty feckin good too

Although people don’t like to admit it we were miles better under Steve Bruce and results and points for confirm that

All depends on how you like to watch football. Personally, I hated watching the Bruce football. I said at the start of this season I would rather watch us lose 4-3 than watch some of the 0-0 draws we saw under Bruce.

Mind you, I never signed up for a 9-1 and two 5-0s ;)
