David Sharpe is expecting a few more ‘ins-and-outs’ before Wigan Athletic’s squad is ready for next season. With the new fixtures released on Wednesday – and the players back in for pre-season training this weekend – the appetite has already being whetted. And Sharpe says plenty of hard work is going on behind the scenes to ensure new boss Paul Cook has a squad ready to compete for an automatic return to the Championship. “There’s going to be a couple of changes before the start of the season,” Sharpe confirmed. “There’ll be a couple of players hopefully coming in, and maybe a couple of players leaving.“We’re actively talking with clubs, and different things are popping up every day.”Sharpe also underlined his belief Latics will be in the promotion shake-up.“Every club in League One is looking at promotion, and that has to be our aim,” he added on Radio Manchester. “There’s no point looking at it differently – everyone is in it to win it. We’ve got to use our experience of last time in League One, we know what it takes as does the manager.“But there’s some good teams in there. It’ll be tough.”

After one of the poorest league showings for many a season I’m just trying to work out who our ‘better players’ might be.

He seems to have already backtracked on what he said at the end of last season. He accepted that one or two might leave, but that the main bulk of last seasons team would remain.

And even as shit as they were last season the one thing most posters on here were in agreement about was that with that squad we should bounce straight back and we were mostly all delighted with Sharpeys earlier comments.

Well let’s hope it is only a couple and not the stupid amounts we’ve seen in previous seasons…
disappointment of last season fading and quite looking forward to this next one..

Well if the inevitable is going to happen this should happen soon. He will have a good idea whose wages he wants to loose and likewise he will know the Billy Big Bollocks who want away and the surplus players too so why this sham every summer. Get everything sorted before the pre-season starts. The squad for August needs to be playing as a team throughout pre-season.
This transfer window is a terrible thing. It should close mid July then there are no disruptions.

After the screw ups of last season Sharpey himself needs to get his act together. I’m sure grandad will have had a word so hopefully the lad will have learned a valuable lesson and he won’t sanction changes for changes sake. The worry to me is will they let Cookie fashion his squad with the players he wants or does a transfer committee exist and do they have the say on who we target.
