At least nobody on sky said the usual media line for things such as this

“what if he’d had a knife?”

Disgraceful incident, the lad WILL be arrested, and it’s just said on SSN that they have his name….only a matter of time.

But….why the condemnation of Neil Warnock? I heard him say it was disgraceful and that the guy should be banned and chucked in prison…..so what more do people want him to say?

DID he say Kirkland went down like a ‘ton of bricks’? If so, it’s because he actually DID go down like a ton of bricks. (I thought a sniper had done him, tbh) The ironic thing is, in his latter appearances for us, he never went down as quick….the Blackpool 4-nil debacle, anybody?.

And that’s the thing, “he played for us”. Is that why many have got rose-tinted glasses on? Come on! Disgusting assault, no question, but he definitely went down….like a sack of shit. He was pushed, not smacked.

That said, I hope the guy gets done for assault and a long ban from football grounds. It is totally out of order.

And which Police force will be dealing with it and failed to stop him getting on the pitch? South Yorkshire Police. Bit ironic really, that they were so good at keeping fans off the pitch back in April ’89….eh?
          Same end as well. Shocking.

Must admit I assumed Warnock had been his usual arsey self but having since heard the interview he was ok. I think people objected to him sending his players over to applaud the fans.

          .

I bet if I did a running shove of all my weight onto your jaw you would go down like a sack of shit too you tool.

just take a look at karate they’re not throwing punches round like an angry school kid its about putting all of your weight onto a certain point e.g. side of the jaw.

Seeing the video it looked a real brain shaker.

In the interview he did straight after the game where he said Kirkland had gone down like a ton of bricks he made light of a very unsavoury incident. If I was to defend Warnock he probably hadn’t seen a reply of the incident so maybe he could be excused for his flippant attitude and comment during that interview and for applauding the fans after the game. I believe he has since apologised. I’d like to think he did that off his own bat rather than being advised to do so.

I have to be fair to Warnock – I met him a couple of times when I was stewarding in the tunnel, and he is a really really nice guy. Honestly. One of the nicest managers I met (Lawrie Sanchez was the worst – a nasty piece of work – I quit before Premier days so don’t know about the current crop).

It’s just that when that whistle blows he loses his head. I agree with Sammy, that he was probably speaking off the cuff at the time, and now realises the impact.

            #95395

Didnt Sanchez once put his foot through the door of the away team dressing room when we beat Wycombe at the JJB ?

            #95400

He certainly kicked the door – not sure he kicked “through” it. He was always throwing things around, mouthing off …..etc etc

Be interesting to see what action is taken now because banning him from every ground isn’t the answer because he already had a banning order anyway ! Fine to be paid off at a fiver a week probably !

Salford, why the childish response? Why you getting personal?

Fact is, Kirkland is what, 6’4? I’m sure he’s taken worse knocks than that in his career and stayed on his feet. I thought his back had gone again, to be honest.

You compare it to a karate punch….it was far from a karate punch, or a punch of any kind, as it happens. It was a two-handed push. Nothing more, and the guy who did it was hardly stocky. “A running shove” you call it, no it wasn’t even a running shove.

                Regardless, it shouldn’t have happened.

I quote you “I bet if I did a running shove of all my weight onto your jaw you would go down like a sack of shit too you tool.”

For 1: Why resort to calling me a tool? Because I told it as I saw it?

and 2: No, I don’t think I would go down like that in all honesty. The bloke didn’t shove him on his jaw, or with ‘all his weight’-there was nothing to the idiot who did it. And no, I’m not giving it the ‘big man’. I have an endomorphic stature, thus meaning I have a lower, heavier, and lower sense of gravity. Stocky? yes, overweight? yes, harder to knock over, definitely.

So Salford, no need for the crass riposte. I was simply being honest about what I saw. It was an honest post.

I think you’re missing the point here regarding Kirland’s reactions. The fact that he wasn’t expecting to be pushed in face had more of an impact than the actual impact, so to speak. It was the shock of what happened that caused him to “drop like a ton of bricks” rather than the physical contact.

He DID go down a bit mad though, Sammy. Ok, he was shocked and surprised, but most keepers would’ve stayed on their feet and probably swung a punch at him or grabbed him. There was a big size difference, with Kirkland much the bigger.

Of course, if he had done, he would’ve been loudly condemned by the powers that be, and probably given a red card and a fine.

But you don’t know what most keepers would have done though do you? I suggest they would have done exactly the same as Kirkland for the reasons I’ve mentioned.

Had he done as you suggest, there’s also the RISK that the village idiot who ran onto the pitch would have been supported by one or two other idiots (who had also entered the field of play) deciding to wade in.

Doesn’t bear thinking about, THEN what might have happened. Kirkland injury / near riot(pitch invasion) … etc. etc. …
