Fans who only started supporting the club in the division 1 promotion season are anti Martinez and have unrealistic expectations of Whelan.
The rest of us (the minority I admit) support Martinez and Whelan and apreciate the sheer effort it takes to keep a small club like ours in the Premier League. Furthermore, we are not obsessed with staying there as no matter what league we are in we will be there supporting our team.
Although I am frustrated at Martinez and the other club legends on the staff (none who have previous top flight experience by the way), I do think the fans who have been there since the lower league days generally have a greater sense of the ‘bigger picture’.

Or you could say that the minority have witnessed a relagation before albeit twenty plus years ago and all the recent supporters have never witnessed this .

Think I agree with that and am part of the latter. I am definately one of the ones who want’s Martinez to stay on and I think we will go far under him. Others seem to want him out, even though they probably have no idea who would replace him and they also do not know if he would do the job. Martinez is trying a new style for Wigan, and in time I think he will get it to work, consistantly. Some of the class we are capable of has been there for all to see this season.
Football fans always moan and have lots of differing opinions, when we used to be at springy it was the same. its nowt to do with new or old fans its about different opinions from different people, ask other clubs fans its the same all over, some Hull fans like Brown some dont, some sunderland like bruce some dont its the same all over the country not just at Wigan. I remember latics fans that wanted Jewell out after Canvey Island game they werent JCLs were they? And what a mistake that would of been!

Well said get a bit sick of people saying, i bet there just jcl who want him out, I remember being on springfield park and wondering would we ever get more fans and now we have more, people moan about that.
any anger i vent is at the players who stroll through a game without any effort or determination. The style we are now playing under Roberto is pleasing and when it is flowing a joy to watch, but when it is not quite happening is the time the players need to dig in and try harder to make it work. After all it is a well paid job!
Does it really matter if you want Martinez in or out?
The fans I’m dubious of are those who want to stay in the Premiership at all costs, and by inclination, ‘won’t be bothered’, with the club should we go down.
As a Latics fan I’ve had far, far more highs outside of the Premiership, neither does a game go by when you write off the chance of winning points, as regularly happens in this league.
We should of course fight to stay up, but come August I’ll be looking forward to the new season regardless of the division.

Is right.
If we do go down, I’ll probably go to more away games, as I enjoyed Championship away days. Some good days out, like at Leicester, etc.
